Bostonian916 (449 KP) rated John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019) in Movies
Jun 24, 2020
John Wick is quickly becoming a favorite franchise among many, myself included. Keanu Reeves excels in a revolutionary role that shows the viewer a type of action rarely seen before and never seen in the elaborate conditions and setting that is built within this world.
It's nice how this series introduces new characters to fight the titular Wick. They always have an original way to twist the story around and make this villain the most evil villain yet, even if that isn't necessarily the case.
I can't wait to see what is in store in the next installment. Reeves has publicly stated that he will keep making John Wick movies as long as people want to keep watching them. Well, I will keep watching them for as long as you keep making them, Mr. Reeves.

Different direction for Saw (1 more)
Gore fans will be happy
I want to play a game
This seems to have come out of nowhere, or I'm just well behind with up coming releases. A detective story from the Saw universe.
Chris Rock, a little hard to view as a homicide detective, is working a case of a potential copycat killer of Saw targeting dirty cops. There is plenty of blood and gore in the traps as you expect, although they are less centre stage this time.
It's a decent mix of a cop thriller with the Saw traps twist thrown in. Although the ending was a little abrupt for me. Overall a decent film that will keep Saw fans happy while moving in a different direction.

Amy Norman (1048 KP) rated The Department of Sensitive Crimes (Detective Varg #1) in Books

*possibly mild spoilers*
This wasn't a bad read, but I got to the end and I felt a bit like well that was a whole lot of nothing.
What I mean is there were a few cases that were solved during the course of the book, but for each one I was like 'was that it?'. There wasn't some big twist, and the way they came to the conclusions were occasionally odd, and abrupt, without a satisfying narrative.
*Nearly* all of the characters are completely unchanged by the end of the book, and the most entertaining journey was potentially the main characters dog 😅
I was looking for a quick easy read in between some heavier books, and this certainly achieved that, but I won't be picking up the rest of the series.

Merissa (12854 KP) rated The Hookup in Books

The Hookup is a short story with Grant and Easton. Grant needs some time to play as he has his concerns and worries dragging him down. Easton sees a gorgeous man in navy whites and immediately wants to know him better.
This was a quick read that still manages to give you a great story. I loved the twist halfway through which gave a whole new depth to the read. The attraction between these two is off the charts so be prepared for a steamy read.
If you need some quick loving then I can definitely recommend this book.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Matthew Krueger (10051 KP) rated Wind Chill (2007) in Movies

Stuggle To Survive
Wind Chill- is a good horror flick, that does have twist and turns all thoughout the flick. Its slow at first, but it does get intresting in the middle and end. Emily Blunt is really good in this film.
The plot: Just before their university campus goes quiet for the winter break, a young woman (Emily Blunt) asks a classmate (Ashton Holmes) for a lift home. The two students set off on their trip and begin to get to know each other. But, when a reckless motorist drives them off the road, they find themselves stranded in the snow on a remote highway. As the night grows colder, the two are confronted by a horde of menacing apparitions -- and struggle to escape with their lives.
Its a good movie.

Eleanor Luhar (47 KP) rated The Mistletoe Murder and Other Stories in Books
Jun 24, 2019
It's getting a bit late to post these festive reviews so I'll keep it short. It's only a short book, anyway.
This book contains four short stories, all crime/detective tales, starting with The Mistltoe Murder. My personal favourite was the final story, The Twelve Clues of Christmas. Every story was great, though, and A Very Commonplace Murder was particularly surprising.
James manages to include a fantastic little hint/twist at the end of the stories, changing your whole perception on what you've just read. This made the crimes so much more interesting and real. They were relatively simple crimes - stabbings, poisoning - but there's always a lot more going on under the surface than you'd expect.
A fantastic little collection, with a foreword by Val McDermid too. 4 stars.
