A Marmite Film, But We loved it!
My two daughters and I watched this on Saturday night with our expectations set on low as we'd all heard things about it that said it wouldn't be very good. Maybe that was the secret to our enjoyment, but we loved it!
It is fun and frantic, with a modern twist to the story that I adored. I thought the comedy aspects were brilliant, and the actors knocked it out of the park.
If you're looking for the movie equivalent of War and Peace then you will be disappointed. However, if you are after a fun, family movie that will make you smile and laugh then I can absolutely recommend it.
This is a Marmite Film. You will either love it or hate it. As for us, we loved it!

<i><b>But doesnt every guilty man hide his deeds behind his words and hide his thoughts behind his smile?</i></b>
This was perfectly set up to be a great novel, but unfortunately, like so many novel nowadays, it instead failed to excite and thrill me, and in the end, turned into an extremely mediocre read.
It wasnt until around 70% of the way through this book that I realised how dislikable DeMarco, our supposed hero, was. His anger and grief was completely understandable after the loss of his wife and child, but I felt he was unnecessarily unkind to his peers and overly passive aggressive in general. <spoiler>Plus can we talk about how much of a shitty cop he was? Getting into a car with a bleeding out dead body to chase an armed, highly fragile man and not alerting anyone? <b>Murdering</b> the main suspect on a case just because he could? Only in fiction.</spoiler>However, out of our two main characters, I was happy to read more about DeMarco than Thomas. I found Thomas PoV to be slow and a little pointless. Again, I understood his anguish and shame etc, but I guess I just couldnt connect to his character and summon up the right emotions to care about his story that much.
This was a slow read for me, but I kept pushing through it because: 1) it wasnt <i>that</i> bad and 2) I was led to believe, by some other reviews, that an amazing twist was going to be revealed. <i>Unfortunately,</i> we got the amazing twist and my reaction was more of an oh than a whoa!! <spoiler>I guess I wanted to the book to feel more realistic, I wanted some innate human darkness to be the cause of the murders, I didnt want a book about revenge.</spoiler> The plot, overall, wasnt too bad, there were some exciting moments, but for the most part this could only just hold my interest.
<i>Two Days Gone</i> didnt grab my attention well enough for me to rate it anything higher than 3 stars. It was an average story, with average characters and an average plot twist. Its a shame because had high hopes for this one, but nevermind, you win some, you lose some. I see Amazon have specified this as a Ryan DeMarco novel so Im assuming we may be seeing a series come out from Silvis, but I wont be keeping up with it.
Thanks to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for giving me the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.

Fun, engaging story
Almost as weird as me!
There aren't many books that you can read from start to finish, every time you finish. This one is a rarity, with an story reminiscent of 80's horror, and with a nostalgic comedy feel, throughout. A book about supernatural sci-fi, with a very fresh style, John Dies At The End does a fantastic job at having you relate to its characters. There's a warmth to the descriptiveness of the book, that instantly nurtures your empathy for the colourful occupants of this mind-altering adventure.
The novel does twist and turn, with a number of surprises, and comes to a cataclysmic end, that leaves you wanting more, and ready for the sequel (also excellent), but entirely satisfied at the close of this story.
A must read for any horror or sci-fi fan.

Good but overrated
I really disliked this on watching this at the cinema, but after watching it again for a second time I have changed my first impression - but it is still a bit overrated.
The performances are good and I like the storyline itself and it's message about today's society. The twist and the resolution were pretty good if not a little bonkers, and Chris and Rod are really endearing characters. It's some of the horror and suspense aspects themselves that I have an issue with. Sometimes the direction and soundtrack really work to create tension and suspense, but then in other scenes it lacks any subtlety whatsoever and actually becomes funny. Lingering shots on characters looking over the top creepy really doesn't work.
But this aside, it's still one of the better horror films of recent years, even if it doesn't live up to the hype.

A Fantastic Original Show
A brilliantly original drama series that takes a number of unexpected twists, Tin Star is one of my favourite TV shows of last year. This was one of those shows that I was excited about before it premiered, but when it actually started I didn't have the time to watch it and so I put it off. I am extremely glad that I decided to go back to it.
Although I liked the sound of the show back before it premiered, I actually wasn't expecting too much from it, as I had since heard mixed reviews of the series, but I for one loved it. The performances are great and I love how the show takes certain concepts that have been used many times before and puts a totally unique and unexpected twist on them.

Farewell to Paris (Legend of the White Snake #2) by Martin Chu Shui
This is the story of Caitlin and Charlie's son, as he grows up and becomes a man. You stay with him as he trains with Alice, as he meets and trains with the Grandmaster and how his whole life has revolved around him saving his mum from the ICSC. As this is Sean/Shilin's story, there is not a lot going on with Alice or Charlie and definitely not with Caitlin but even so, this book follows seamlessly. It is full of action with many a twist and turn to keep you attentive. There is romance with a question but it doesn't overpower the story.
I was looking forward to reading this book and haven't been disappointed.

Daft wee stories
I think there's something wrong with Limmy. Such a troubled mind. How he comes up with the stories contained here is mind-boggling.
This is a collection of short stories, all of which are less than a 10 minute read. All of them are very odd. Some are hilarious, some are interesting, others just truly bizarre. A number of the stories seem to be going nowhere and then just totally twist in the last few words. In others Limmy somehow has his character work through the logic of a stupid decision and somehow convince themselves to make that stupid decision
This collection is a good read, but don't expect it to be laugh out loud funny. This isn't your Michael Macintyre autobiography, it is a collection of daft wee stories, generally showing people getting themselves into weird situations or doing stupid things.
