Humorous take on apocalypse genre
The most humorous apocalypse book I've ever read
I found this book offered for Kindle and decided to read it based on the fact that it was humorous instead of serious.
Apocalypticon is a story of two friends in Chicago that somehow survived M-Day, the day the monkey shaped missiles were launched from Jamaica to destroy most of the inhabitants of Earth, only to pack up 3 years later and make a whirlwind trip to visit Disney World, of all places.
Along the way, Patrick and Ben come across some very colorful survivors like Violet, a woman who runs the only bridge out of town like a restaurant: hostess stand, bus boys, wine and all; an Amtrak Captain who happens to be the only one left in the country, that is obsessed with keeping a schedule he never can seem to keep; a futune teller that warns Patrick of his fate; a couple of religious cults, each morbidly twisted in their own way; zombie-like creatures called Runners that snorted their way into the realm of the semi-undead; a gun-toting chick that thinks that the Runners can be cured; and journalist who is trying to make sense of why certain people survived the decimation of 98% of the world's population.
Now, don't get me wrong, there were plenty of action scenes where people and things got effed up, but not so much of the blood and gore that typically goes along with genre.
I surprised myself by actually laughing out loud while reading this...several times, I might add.
I recommend Apocalypticon to anyone who enjoys a good apocalypse story and can accept the hilarity of the situation at hand.

The Butterfly Garden is no place to be...
When you think of a butterfly garden, you typically picture a peaceful place filled with nature’s beauty and warmth. Some may even go as far using the description: a little slice of heaven. This particular Butterfly Garden, however, is no such place. No one in their right mind would ever want to visit. Beauty is horribly distorted into grotesqueness, peace gives way to torture, and there is little warmth to be found within this garden. This garden is his personal, man-made house of horrors. Him. The man they call the Gardener. He kidnaps teenage girls and collects them in his garden, all the while subjecting them to an awful number of unspeakable atrocities. The girls, whom he calls his butterflies, form a family of sorts and team up in order to cope with the perverse Gardener and his twisted ways. Will they ever see the Outside again? What will it take to destroy the garden and break the Gardener’s evil cycle once and for all?

The Butterfly Garden is undeniably dark and disturbing, but it pulls you in right from the start and almost holds you against your will as you flip the pages faster and faster so you, too, can escape. It is definitely not an easy journey; it is bound to leave you speechless and incredibly disgusted. That being said, there is plenty of good in this novel that makes it worth the trip. The compelling story is as much about survivors as it is one of captives. The main character, Maya acts shady at times, but you will cheer for her as she struggles to keep the girls together and find ways to endure. Nevertheless, brace yourself and snuggle up with your fluffiest blanket and jammies when you read The Butterfly Garden.

Domestic Suspense Thriller you won't want to put down. The cover alone is captivating then opening the book and reading the Prologue, holy wow can we say it makes you want to read it right away!!!!!
PROLOGUE
"She looks beautiful in her wedding dress. It fits her perfectly and is exactly what I'd imagined she'd go for: elegant, understated, and unique --- just like her. My heart breaks that her day will never come, but she doesn't need to know that yet.
I think about the guests who won't attend, the picture frames with no photographs, the first dance that will be silent, the cake that won't get eaten, and I feel my resolve weakening. I pull myself up. This is not a time for doubt.
There is still so much work to do, so much more pain to inflict, but I will not be deterred. I failed once before, but this time, I'll get it right. There's too much at stake to get it wrong."
Just wow!!! And which character is this coming from? Adam the fiancé? Pammie (Adam's mom and future mother-in-law)? James? (the jealous at times brother of Adam) Someone else in Emily's circle????

This book is about a romance that happened very quickly between Adam and Emily, a devious mother named Pammie, a brother who seems to want Emily for himself … Do you really know the family you will become in-laws with and will Emily find out too late who they really are? What secrets will be revealed? Get ready for an entertaining, twisted thriller you will not want to put down until the very end with lots of manipulation, guesses, and questions.. oh scratching your head moments like WTF …

The Addams Family (1991)
The Addams Family (1991)
1991 | Comedy, Horror, Sci-Fi
Story: The Addams Family starts as we meet the family Morticia (Huston), Gomez (Julia), Lurch (Struycken), Wednesday (Ricci), Pugsley (Workman) and Thing (Hart) who have been trying to contact Uncle Fester after his disppearnce years before. Bring in Tully Alford (Hedaya) and his wife Margaret (Ivey) who want the Addams family fortune.

Tully and Abigail Craven (Wilson) use her son Gordon (Lloyd) to pretend to be Uncle Fester as he enters the house to find his share of the fortune but his adventure are nothing like he would expect as he has to deal with the unusual behaviour of the Addams family. It isn’t long before the family starts to question this Uncle Fester and soon begin to love the strange character even if he isn’t the man they thought he was.

The Addams Family is one of the true classic family comedy fantasy film that shows just how different we can see each person in our own family to be different. The interactions between the family are all twisted in a loving way where we could see others question while the interaction with the people outside the family all come off slightly awkward which sums up the family perfectly.

The con-artist side of the story comes off nicely as we can see how naïve a family can be but even with love people can change. The performances are all great with Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston have perfect chemistry as the father and mother of the family. The rest of the cast all give great performances that you can believe from start to finish with the uniqueness given to each character.

Overall: Underrated classic that hits on all of the unique style needed to make it truly stand out.

Really Enjoyable!
Wow, this book is amazing! I generally enjoy a good thriller but this one had me enthralled from the very first page.

Detective Tom Fabian’s past is catching up with him. It has been years since the most famous case of his career – when his evidence put infamous serial killer Christopher Wisher behind bars forever. But when Wisher summons a reluctant Fabian to his prison cell to hand over a diary, he realises that Wisher’s twisted games are far from over.

Shortly after Fabian’s visit, Wisher is found dead in his cell. And a few days later, the police find a woman's body bearing Wisher’s signature, a dead songbird. But the police never released this detail to the public … so who has Wisher been talking to? Did Wisher have an accomplice? He had a number of regular visitors whilst in prison. Why are they visiting a serial killer?

The Songbird Girls has a very clever plotline that I really enjoyed. It was intriguing from the beginning and although this is not the first book in the series, I found it a good stand-alone read, as there was plenty of back history.

There are many twists and turns throughout this well-written novel. I simply had to keep reading on with this fascinating thriller and the ending left me very happy. I believe there is definitely scope for a follow-on book. It has an impressive, well-thought-out storyline that culminates in some very tense closing chapters.

I highly recommend reading The Songbird Girls and I am looking forward to reading another book from this author!

I would like to thank NetGalley, Bookouture and the author, Richard Parker, for a copy of this book in return for a review.

Matthew Krueger (10051 KP) rated the Xbox One version of Resident Evil 7 biohazard in Video Games

Resident Evil 7 biohazard
Resident Evil 7 biohazard

Back To Horror
Contains spoilers, click to show
This game is so scary, its terrorfying, horrorfying, spooky, creepy and so much more. Plus its back to the old resident evil games. Unlike 5 and 6 which toke the action rote. So it was so good to see it back home where it belongs. Its twisted, psychological, nightmareful and so much more. Lets talk about the plot/story.

The Plot/Story: player controls Ethan Winters as he searches for his wife in a derelict plantation occupied by a cannibal family, solving puzzles and fighting enemies. It is the first main series game to use a first-person view.

Ethan must choose to cure either Mia or Zoe. Choosing Zoe leaves Mia heartbroken, despite Ethan's promise to send help. As he and Zoe flee on a boat, Zoe reveals that the Bakers were infected after Mia arrived with a young girl named Eveline when the wreck of a tanker ship washed ashore. Eveline stops their escape by calcifying Zoe, killing her, and Ethan is knocked from the boat by a creature. If Ethan chooses Mia, Zoe gives a bitter farewell to him and Mia.

I like thie because you have to choose to decide on who gets the cure and who doesnt.

If Ethan cured Mia, she resists Eveline's control long enough to seal Ethan out of the ship; if he cured Zoe, Mia succumbs to Eveline's control and attacks Ethan, forcing him to kill her.

Chris Redfield does apper in the game, at the end through. The helicopter that Chris comes in on is branded with the Umbrella Corporation logo.

Their is alot of extra contant/DLC for this game.

If you haven't played this game, than i would highly reccordmend playing this game.

Ma (2019)
Ma (2019)
2019 | Horror, Thriller
Olivia Spencer gives a tour de force performance as a "unbalanced" veterinary assistant. I call it "unbalanced" because it is not really clear whether or not she is mentally ill, sociopathic, or just megalomaniacal. In Ma, a teenager moves back to her mom's hometown and makes friends with a group of teenagers who include the son of a prominent businessman. The friends with nothing to do in the town decide to get some booze and go down in the quarry to drink it, like a bunch of teenagers from the 70s. How to get the booze is the problem. Then, Sue Ann whom the teens start to call Ma, out walking one of the canine patients reluctantly agrees. Given how uncool she was in high school, she attempts to be the cool adult to these teenagers. However her social skills need a lot of work and she ends up seeming a little off to everyone. At this point, she goes off the handle and starts to torment the teenagers and all of her former classmates from high school, including Erica (the single mother), Ben (the divorced father), and Mercedes (Ben's slutty lover). She also for no discernible reason other than she just plain dislikes her murders her boss, the town veterinarian which seems irresponsible. In the end, the teenagers are able to save themselves from the twisted Ma, burn down her house, and Ma decides to cuddle up with the "love of her life" Ben who had raped her in high school. Maybe it is a comment on toxic masculinity and the effects it has on weaker women or the bonds formed between a rapist and his victim. Either way the film leaves many questions and is only saved by the performance of Olivia Spencer.

LeftSideCut (3778 KP) rated the PlayStation 4 version of Layers of Fear in Video Games

Nov 19, 2019 (Updated Nov 19, 2019)
Layers of Fear
Layers of Fear
2016 | Action/Adventure
On the surface, Layers of Fear seems like a game that was designed purely for YouTubers to play and scream at, and I think that's a fair enough assumption based on the sheer amount of jumpscares throughout (some are cheap, some are effective).
But look a little deeper and you will be rewarded with more that you might expect.

You play as a Victorian era painter, trying to paint his magnum opus, unlocking more to your painting as you dive ever deeper into his fractured psyche.
It's one of those games that leaves a lot up to you to interpret, only finding more concrete plot pointers if you care enough to explore and find clues.
Visually, Layers of Fear is great. It captures the feeling of spiralling madness perfectly, with some decent graphics to go with it.
The constant presence of subtly morphing paintings scattered along the walls is suitably creepy, and creates a general feeling of unease as you navigate through dimly lit hallways.
The classic first person perspective adds to this unease as you constantly feel little to no control over what you're seeing, as the house shifts around you regularly.
The further you venture into the artists mind, the darker the narrative insinuations become, as the visions turn increasingly twisted.

Layers of Fear can be finished in a couple of hours, and isn't particularly challenging, but the addition of multiple endings will keep you coming back, just out of shear intrigue.
The jump scares feel a little excessive after a while but if you are a fan of the recent wave of first person horror exploration games (in the wake of P.T.) then Layers of Fear is worth seeking out.
