The Disney villain origin story I never knew I needed! Honestly, who isn't a sucker for a good origin story, and Disney managed to pull this off. The movie is about Maleficent's redemption along with the maternal love between her and Aurora. I also appreciated that they didn't focus much of the movie on Aurora's love with Philip. It has definitely been added to my favorites.

The villain is superbly acted (4 more)
The film is extremely tense
The blood splatter is 80s-tastic
The music fits the film well
The diner scene is pretty damn cool
Adam Wingard strikes again with another seriously strong film. This one feels part home invasion horror and part 80s action thriller. There's some really nice blood splatter from gunshots in this flick. The villain is portrayed to perfection in a performance on par with Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler and Ledger in The Dark Knight, or at least that's my opinion. The plot is a bit wild but it's a fun ride with some really memorable sequences. The diner scene in particular was pretty spectacular even though in the grand scheme of the finale it wasn't the biggest attraction. All in all a very entertaining film and another hit for Wingard to keep him in my top 5 modern filmmakers.

Erika (17789 KP) rated Star Trek Beyond (2016) in Movies
Dec 29, 2017
Out of the three new Star Trek movies, this one, by far, is the strongest. I was surprised that the director, best known for the numerous fast and furious movies, did as well as he did. The villain, played by Idris Elba was kind of blah, I wish they would have given him more to work with. I loved the tribute to Anton Yelchin and Leonard Nimroy (RIP).

Shaun Collins (3 KP) rated Doctor Who: Dreamtime in Books

Some interesting ideas that didn't gel, a villain who isn't, more supernatural elements without science explanations than should ever appear in Who, and a substandard set of additional characters add up to a poor outing from Big Finish here. Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred are great as usual, but thats about as far as I can go in this confusing story set in the land down under. Or is it?
