4.5 stars!

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

OMG! I've just read the excerpt from the next in the series, Elect, and WHAT!?!?

I suppose I should explain this one before I get carried away wanting the second one, huh?

I loved this book! It's my first ever one by Rachel Van Dyken. though I have The Bet on my kindle, and I cant help wondering why I haven't read it yet!

I was quickly sucked into this story though I was a bit put off by Nixon's behaviour in the beginning but I have to admit by the end I was well on my way to being in love with him. But then we have Chase too. I generally urge the girl to go with the first guy but then that would make it Chase and not Nixon. Both are great guys so I have no idea what Trace is going to do in the second book and that excerpt! Jeez! Got me worrying a little.

As you can probably tell I loved this book; it drew me in and kept me guessing. Cant wait for the next one!

I whizzed through this book in only 5 hours of actual reading time. It completely captivated me! Simone is a teenager, with all the problems and changes that come with it. To top it, she's adopted - with two gay dad's - and she was born with HIV. I don't know about everyone else, but I didn't cope with being a teenager very well so I'm already proud of this fictional yet utterly believable character. The narrative is done through Simone's eyes. And is so honest. It encompasses all the things that a teenager would be thinking; school stresses, friendship groups, sexuality and let's not forget high-school crushes. This is a brilliant coming of age YA novel. One that I think I will rave about for a while. Not only was it a brilliant read, it also taught me loads about HIV (U=U) and living with HIV. And the theme of this text is completely right, people don't know as much as they should and they react based on incomplete facts. I am so glad that I read this book and implore you to read it too.

Interview with the Vampire (1994)
Interview with the Vampire (1994)
1994 | Fantasy, Horror
Lavish adaptation of the best-selling novel resembles a cross between an existential bitch-fest and a hair care products commercial. Have you wondered what the ageless and immortal vampire does with all those endless nights? Well, he sits around and broods about it, if he's Brad Pitt, or shamelessly camps it up in search of an Oscar nomination if he's Tom Cruise. The film documents two centuries in the life of the undead: most of it is people sitting around in extravagantly-decorated rooms complaining about either their lives or each other.

Just a bit too artfully amoral and self-indulgent for my tastes; the gay subtext is undeniably present but you can tell Pitt and Cruise are doing their best to stamp it into the carpet (I mentioned this in a review of the novel once and someone said 'This book isn't about gay people! It's about vampires!', which I thought was rather sweet). Looks good and has some decent performances, but makes being a vampire look very boring. On the other hand, very clearly the chief inspiration for What We Do In the Shadows (both movie and TV show), although not nearly as entertaining.

Knives Out (2019)
Knives Out (2019)
2019 | Comedy, Crime, Drama
Rian Johnson is back with a bang with Knives Out, a classic Clue like murder mystery, packed with twists that will keep you on your toes, even when it seems that everything is figured out.

There's really nothing bad to say, Knives Out is a thoroughly entertaining movie. The cast for one is just stacked - Daniel Craig and Ana de Armas are the two leads here and are both great. The supporting cast features the likes of Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Christopher Plummer, Toni Collette, Lakeith Stanfield, Frank Oz - it's an ensemble cast oozing with quality.

The whole film is shot beautifully, and has a gorgeous setting. It's easy to look at for sure. The plot is masterfully written as well - as mentioned, providing plenty of twists, but presented in a clever way, from multiple perspectives, with different accounts of events being told as the truth slowly unravels. The screenplay is fantastic and often funny, helped immensely by all of the cast and the strong chemistry they share.

Knives Out is definitely not one to miss, easily Rian Johnson's finest film as far as I'm concerned.

As a lover of goosebumps as a teen I was instantly drawn to this as soon as I saw the trailer for it. It has a very similar storyline to the episode say cheese and die but obviously as this is more for adults it's more scary. For those who have seen that episode of goosebumps my job is done, for those who haven't the movie is about a cursed camera, anyone who has their photo taken is killed by a supernatural creature. An antiques dealer named Bird is given an old camera by a friend, she starts taking photos of people with it but it isn't until the second person dies that she realises their deaths are because of the camera. It is then a race against time to find out the origins of the camera and how they can stop this supernatural being from killing her and all of her friends. Can she stop it in time? You'll have to watch to find.
A few jump scares in the movie but nothing too scary and lots of twists and turns, the ending I would have never guessed but it was very well done. Highly recommended.
