Wow, this book is an emotional roller coaster. I couldn't put it down. The writing wasn't amazing but the poetry aspect made up for it.
This book has you rooting for the characters and cheering them on in their journey. I wish that there was more character development. All in all this was a good, interesting book. I liked the combination of the slam poetry and the characters. It was definitely an entertaining read.

Superheroes? Or villains?
Dark and delicious
Schwab does it again with a dark and delicious unique story.
If you like creepy superpowers and questioning morals this is for you!
I loved how it switched to different times, both past and present and between different characters backgrounds, all while not being confusing, to create a complete and interesting story.
I really wish it came with illustrations comic book style

Excellent Story
I read this book when I was a child, then later on as an adult. The story is rich in details about the time period. When my kids were growing up, it became tradition to read it through the month of December.
To me the story teaches that it's never too late to have a change in heart, to learn to appreciate those around us.

No Spoilers. I will say I enjoy a book crafted between two or more characters' conflicting viewpoints. I won't say much more other than kudos to the author for writing a story I couldn't predict the ending of. I enjoy stories like that very much. I think the plot and storyline couldn't benefited from perhaps peppering in some foreshadowing or backstory earlier in the book, but it was a good read overall.

This book started off pretty slow but did pick up towards the end...
However, I did feel like I had points where I struggled to read it or didn’t really want to pick it up and carry it on even though it had it’s really good moments.
I’m not sure if I will continue to read the series but if I do I’ll be sure to keep you all updated!

I won this book through a Goodreads giveaway. The book itself does not come out until March 2017. Other than a few typographical errors, this is such a great book! I've read her other books and I really like her writing. This was no disappointment. Lindsey is a single mom and Sophie is her daughter. Lindsey was in an abusive relationship and she got out of that relationship....or did she? Must read the book.

I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book was incredible. The writing is at the same time lyrical and cinematic and absolutely breath-taking.
I was thouroughly invested in Janneke's love/hate relationship with Soren and how she dealt with the effects of her horrendous torture at the hands of a sadist.
Brilliant book.

complex world
A multilayered complex read, heavy and a lot more bloody and violent than the first book. Seriously, don't read this when trying to eat lunch. A few new characters join the scene and the rough spots in the writing style are smoothed out so it was easier to get into the flow of the book. Still heavy in lore, religion, and superstition that adds to the overall experience of the book.
