'The Day After Tomorrow'?
Or even '2012'?
This is more of the same, this time with Gerard Butler taking the lead in a not-so-distant future of 2022 after a network of satellites is sent up into space in 2019 (I must have missed that - I'm reviewing in 2020) to control the weather.
Of course, things then start t go wrong with said satellites (mainly due to sabotage), leading ex-chief engineer Jake Lawson to be recruited by his politician brother (who had previously fired him) to go back up into space to see if he can put things right, in a race against time.
So, Gerard Butler vs The Weather. It's no contest.
(it's also almost completely a cheesy B movie, which can be unintentionally funny if you let it!)

The timestone? Yep, was essential to resolving Infinity War in Endgame
<original review below>
The film that introduced magic (and the Time Stone, which will probably be essential to resolving Infinity War in Endgame), in which Benedict Cumberbatch plays Benedict Cumberbatch as the future Sorcerer Supreme, with Tilda Swinton as the current holder of that title.
As an aside: that was actually a cause of controversy at the time: why not cast an Asian or Eastern actor in that role instead of whitewashing it? went the argument.
The plot may also seem to be a reprise of Iron Man: rich, arrogant, privileged white man suffers personal catastrophe and heads East, returning a changed man. What sets this apart, however, is the somewhat psychedelic effects that often seem to owe more than a bit to Christopher Nolan's movie Inception!

My only frame of reference is the 2021 movie.
Oh, I knew the basics prior to that: Spice, the giant worms, space politics, but beyond that ... ?
Released in the wake of that movie, this is - apparently (or so the authors say) - a straight visual retelling (as much as is possible) of Frank Herbert 1965 epic, rather than putting their own stamp on it.
Never having read that original, I'm in no position to say whether it is or not.
What I will say, however (if it is) then so is the 2021 movie, although there are distinct visual differences between the two mediums.
This also ends in a different place, slightly earlier than the movie, with Paul and Jessica alone in the desert and before their run-in with the Fremen.
So, yes, engaging if dragging slightly in parts and well set-up for the release of Part 2 in Autumn 2022 ...
