It was... Good? I think?
I have "seen" this movie three times now, i think. Maybe it's just the fact that I'm bored to tears with star wars anymore, but I swear, i can barely remember anything about it. Not a good sign, i would reckon. I'm not even sure this movie is real. I would guess that instead it's just hollywood gaslighting us all into believing there was some cool new star wars movie. That sounds more plausible to me.

Still better than force awakens tho.

I felt like this book was going to be an epic journey of self discovery and redeeming family and resolving past mistakes, but it was more like reading the journal of a boring person. A person with an interesting life, mind you, but the person himself was boring. I can’t even remember the main character’s name. It felt disconnected and random, jumping around and telling snapshots and things that happened, but no real plot. A bunch of things does not equal plot.

I felt this way the first time I tried listening to it, and so I put it down. Then one Saturday I was bored so I tried again and I got the same vibe, so I quit. I got about 6 or 8 chapters in.

I think I first read this book in the mid 90s when I was in my mid teens, pre-GCSEs.

Flash forward about 20 years, and I think I picked it up again when it was on offer on Kindle. As I didn't really remember all that much about it - save that it detailed a plot to kill Charles de Gaulle, and that there's a film starring Bruce Willis based on it - I thought I would give it a re-read.

While there's no doubting the technical proficiency in it, and the (almost) insane amount of detail, if I'm honest I actually found this to be rather plodding; rather pedestrian. I get it: most police work is such, but (IMO) that doesn't really make an engaging read.

I actually enjoyed the season, though I do agree that it was rushed. And I was pretty satisfied with each individual episode. My only real quibbles were that I didn't like Cersei and Jaime's deaths; I actually would have been okay if Jaime had lived, but Cersei needed to die in a slow and torturous manner, so I really felt robbed of seeing that. I also wasn't thrilled about Bran being named the King. I know that Jon/Aigon didn't want the position, but surely someone else could have been named! Thirdly, I would liked to have seen a real battle with the Night King; a lengthy sword match, if nothing else, at least.

When I sat down to read this book, I thought, "Hmm, interesting title.", the reason I started reading the novel in the first place.
Once I began to read the book, I couldn't put it down. The more I read the more I wanted to read.
It didn't turn out the way I thought it might, but that is a good thing. Because the author gave you an air of looking for one thing and then providing you with another entirely different ending to the story. Also making you want to read the next book in the series.
Thanks Kathryn Johnson for a wonderful mystery.
I was provided with a free copy of this book so I could give an honest review.

My favourite book of 2018
Well I brought this book as heard so so many good reviews, like most books I try not to read spoilers as I enjoy the surprise! ..I was not disappointed I took it on holiday to Mexico and sat by the pool all day turning page after page ..the only disappointment I got was when I finished it!

It’s a strange feeling when your climbing deep into a book , thinking you know the characters well then ‘bang’ you don’t know them at all. It’s such a gorgeous love story but with twists I was not expecting I felt all sorts of emotions all the way through.

I will be reading more of Katherine’s books she is very talented

"This might be the first movie that I saw. I remember watching it when I was five or six — I shouldn’t even have been watching it — and I saw it in a theater. I grew up in a small town and they had one of those small town theaters, and they put Westerns and whatnot onscreen. It’s one of those movies that made me think it would be very cool to work in movies. I don’t know if I understood the concept of being a director, but I understood the concept of someone making movies, and this movie did it for me. Other people say Star Wars or Indiana Jones. For me it was this one. That’s why I have an emotional reaction to it."

"I have seven older brothers and sisters so there was always a bunch of records around the house. One of my brothers had a record by The Sonics, a Seattle sixties garage rock band, and to a kid who was, like, eight years old, The Sonics really spoke. It was very trashy and you could almost imagine yourself playing those songs - there was a song called 'The Witch' that really spoke to a boy that age and captured his imagination. I was probably about 13 when I heard Raw Power and it reminded me of that, but had something else, it was a bit rattier. I played it over and over again. I haven’t ever been able to write a song as cool as any on Raw Power but I did take that basic ethos; keep it raw and keep it real. Those formative years and the records I listened to then have influenced me to this day. We covered [the song 'Raw Power'] later on ""The Spaghetti Incident?"" [Guns N’ Roses’ 1993 cover album] , and in that era of my life – wow, I guess I’m speaking about my life in eras now – I was probably... well I had a lot of input in that record. I’m not saying I had the most influence, but I probably had more than my share. The UK Subs and the Stooges, I was really happy about some of the selections we made and it was really fun to do something like a Damned song. So we’ll move onto...."

felt it was a littel unfinished in places.
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

I liked this book, but I struggled a bit with it.

I liked that both Henry and Francis had a say, in the third person. I did not like that when Henry spoke, he spoke with a broad Yorkshire accent! I live one county down from Yorkshire, in the UK and it took me a bit of time to figure out what he was saying, so that took some enjoyment out it.

Henry and Francis are from very differing backgrounds, different classes and before WWII this was a major issue. It shows in places. Makes you think, about how things have changed. I didn't much like Francis' mother, but I think that's a generational thing. She came across extremely heavy on Francis and not so much on her brother, but then again, wanting to run away to Hollywood, in that time frame, was probably no more far fetched than it is today!

It felt a little clunky at times, and that made it a bit hard work. Some threads are left....unfinished.....I thought. Bit of tightening up, and I think this might have eeked that 4th star out of me.

BUT

It is well written, and I saw no editing or spelling mistakes, and I did finish it. Whether I will read another by this author remains to be seen.

a GOOD 3 star read

Wow I loved it! I thought I would enjoy based on my recent viewing of John Wick 1 & 2, but I never thought I would love so much. In the modern days of superhero madness and everything becoming a franchise, it was refreshing to see this action film not pull any punches, literally.

I know they are talking about associating this film with the John Wick "universe", but this film stands on its own as a true modern kick-ass masterpiece.
