Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2171 KP) rated Alcatraz Versus the Shattered Lens (Alcatraz, #4) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
In the (unfortunately) final book of the Alcatraz Smedry series, Alcatraz is off to Mokia to try to keep the librarians from adding that kingdom to the Hushlands. Along the way, he gets a few surprises about his family and his talent. Fans of the series will love this latest adventure. It's filled with humor and action like all the others. Unfortunately, it also sets things up for a final book, which doesn't seem to be happening.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2171 KP) rated Pampered to Death (A Jaine Austen Mystery, #10) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Jaine Austen is off to a spa thanks to neighbor Lance. Only when she gets there, she learns it's really a fat farm. When another of the guests gets murdered just before Jaine is going to escape, she decides to find the killer so she can grab some real food. This is another funny adventure for Jaine, and I laughed my way through it from start to finish.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2171 KP) rated The Villain Virus (NERDS, #4) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Flinch takes center stage in this fourth book in a middle grade series. Part James Bond spoof part adventure, it's another fun ride as everyone on earth starts trying to take it over. And the team survive a new school and figure out why everyone is turning evil and how to stop it? I've loved all of these books so far and can't wait for next year's entry already.

Andy K (10821 KP) rated Avalanche (1978) in Movies

I really hoped it would be better
Tier 1 vintage disaster films Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure. Tier 2 the Airport franchise. This would be tier 3 for sure. B movie producer legend Roger Corman financed this very low budget looking disaster flick starring Rock Hudson and Mia Farrow.
SFX were bad including Styrofoam made to look like big rocks of snow and huge fake snow flakes. Acting wasn't bad, but was left wanting more peril and even B movie goodness.
Oh well.

I received this book through Goodreads Giveaway. This is a super cute book. It is written simply but in a way that kids of all ages can appreciate it. I teach 10 and 11-year-olds and they loved the book. They loved the way the book was presented with text and high-quality pictures to accompany the text. The adventure the suitcase goes on allows for the reader to want to read more books to see where the suitcase goes on his around the world trip.

I am glad that I read this book again. I read this novel in high school and I hated it. I felt that it was too slow and felt like there were too many details yet not enough.
Now, 6 years later, I enjoyed reading this novel. I still thought that the novel dragged. I kept feeling like the book would not end. I enjoyed the adventure in this novel and the story created was magnificent. I, however, would have liked the novel to be more of a fast paced novel.

Loz Hughes (80 KP) rated Game Night (2018) in Movies

One liners (3 more)
Varied cast
Comedy value
Action adventure twist.
Laugh out loud funny.
The trailer didnt really do this film justice. I loved this film, and was unexpectedly funnier than I anticipated. Especially the bullet extraction scene. Also the, one liners were brilliant.
I watched this film twice in a short space of time, something I don't do unless I really like it.
Have been recommending it to all of my friends as a comic, laid back, gaming film. Should appeal to boardgame and escape room nerds like me too.

Flynn (6 KP) rated The Wise Man's Fear in Books
Sep 10, 2018
It's certainly not a small book by any means, but surprisingly none of those 992 pages really felt like they drew on longer than they needed to. I will say Felurian's bit made me mildly uncomfortable from time to time though, but Kvothe's time in Adem made up for it. I will say if you're not looking for 992 pages of quality fantasy, it may not be the book for you, but if you're up for adventure with a splash of drama and pain then it'll be a fun, but long, read.
Roxanne (13 KP) rated Skulduggery Pleasant in Books

Although this book is aimed towards children of 9 years plus, I believe it's still a great read for adults. It really is a lot of fun! It's an adventure story filled with magic and mild horror, which in my opinion is a great mix. I knocked a star off as I thought the ending was quite abrupt. A massive build up which lead to a bit of an anticlimax.
I liked all of the characters and would like to see if they return in the second installment.

Charley (64 KP) rated Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in Books

My favourite
This is by far my favourite of the Harry potter books. Different from the others because of the time turner.
Harry, Ron and Hermione start their third year at Hogwarts and as usual end up in trouble and an adventure. Not only has it got all the amazing things that make every Harry potter book great but with the addition of buckbeak, the new classes, the dementors and other amazing creatures. It is a book that I can read over and over again and still enjoy.
