I admit to being extremely late to the party on this one. I was luckily able to avoid hearing anything about the film until I saw yesterday.
In reading the ratings given by others, it is interesting they go from 1 to 10.
While I was skeptical over the hype, especially now considering this film is nominated for several awards. I just thought "isn't this another cheap horror film crap"?
I thought the first hour of the film was great with homages to other horror classics like The Stepford Wives or Rosemary's Baby, but enough original material to keep me interested.
I didn't even mind the big reveal as you have to go along for the ride in a horror film like this.
I just thought the ultimate resolution seemed not up to the level of the rest of the film and was forced or someone just thinking "we have to end the film now". I wish there would have been a more clever conclusion up to the standard set by the beginning of the film.
I'll also say this film certainly doesn't deserve any award recognition especially if people are just doing so to fill some sort of diversity quota.

Flawless movie
Baby Driver is everything I want in a movie. A movie set to music is literally what I dream of because we only ever see it in trailers but never in movies, for example the Suicide Squad trailer used Bohemian Rapsody very well but the actual film was awful. This movie however lived up to the hype of the trailers and delivered more than anyone could have asked for.
It's not very often that a film hooks you right from the offset and doesn't let up the entire time but this film does. In my opinion it features some of the best directing, best editing and best use of soundtrack ever in film history. I'd be very surprised if it doesn't get some awards buzz because it truly deserves it. There is very little wrong with this movie because it's just amazing. Really really amazing and if you don't want to go see it again immediately after coming out of the screening, there's something wrong with you.
Go see it for a guaranteed good time and you'll have the soundtrack stuck in your head for a long time !

Ok lets just come out and say i have enjoyed JRR Tolkien's work since i was 13, I remember going to a used book store looking for comics and D&D. The old man said here check this out and showed me a boxset of books LOTR. He said if I buy them he would throw in the Hobbit. Ok here is $3.00. I am 44, still have them and my kids each have a set as well. Ok enough of that back to the film.
I went in think this is going to be about how he came up with the stories and that kind of stuff. WOW how I was wrong it was about his life as boy to man and ends with him starting to write the Hobbit.
It can be slow at times but i enjoyed it. I would even watch it a couple of more times. Sound was great, acting was great, the shots were great.
Saying that i think it will not be in theater long but i am sure it will win awards. People wont see it as a movie about friends, love, war but just a the creator of hibbits and that is a shame.

While I doubt this novel is going to win any awards for literature, I have to say that it is a good enough read: not brilliant, but not terrible either.
Written by a ex-navy man, it's easy to see the influnece of his career in the pages: this is 'real' science-fiction, not science-fantasy, with the space battles obeying the laws of physics as we know them. The plot outline is also somewhat remniscient of the new series of BattleStar Galactica, with a smaller rag-tag force being chased by a numerically superior foe. Ironically, this book was first released at around the same time as that series came on TV, with (in this edition) the author claiming that that WAS NOT an inspiration (in the interview at the end), as if he'd been thinking of BSG it woud've been the older series.
With the way the book opens I must also admit that, at first, I thought I'd missed something: the best corollary I can think of is as if the film Aliens (that's the one with the 'S') had started without the whole prologue of them finding Ripleys life pod: you'd be able to infer what had happened, but would be feeling a bit lost at first.

Goodfellas is one of my all time favourite movies so this long awaited reunion of Scorsese, DeNiro and Pesci was a mouthwatering prospect. Whilst not a patch on Goodfellas this was still a very impressive and complex piece of film making. This is some of DeNiro's finest work in years and almost enough to forgive him those bagel adverts. Pacino is brilliant as Jimmy Hoffa and it's simply a joy to have Joe Pesci back on the screen. The deaging effects are very good but not quite 100% perfect, at times the characters have a slightly waxy look about them but you soon get used to them. However I did feel the film was lacking in real standout scenes that would become iconic in years to come like Scorsese's earlier work and was more consistently good than outstandingly brilliant. The 3.5 hour running time was a bit over indulgent as well and could easily have been trimmed a bit. The mammoth running time is also a factor likely to put me off watching it again as often as I would a shorter film. So definitely still much to enjoy and admire here and should definitely be in the running for plenty of awards.

I had such high hopes for this film. I didn't necessarily think it was bad, but it's one of those movies where the trailer really makes it seem so much better than it actually is. You know the ones. I love Winston Duke in this, I think he really shines - especially in contrast with his role in Black Panther as M'Baku.
As much as I didn't really LOVE this film, I am hoping there will be a sequel, especially after the ending of this one left it open for one. I really like the cast they chose, the dynamic is really cool. I think my biggest problem with this film is the pacing. Some parts move very slowly and other parts feel so quick. I also didn't really understand the roles of the Feds they had. Like I get it in the context of the film, but it felt unnecessary to actually have them named and have lines and that whole thing. Maybe that's just me though.
Overall, I think it's a relatively decent film. Definitely not going to win any Academy Awards or probably any recognition from the film world, but it's still a good watch. At least to say you did, if not to say you like it.
