"He’s the same guy who wrote Where The Wild Things Are. In it, a child spends most of his time floating about in a bottle of milk, naked… and I think that’s why it’s still on all those ‘most controversial kids’ books’ lists"

"One of the most talked about books of the last couple of years, and for good reason. Both sobering and conservatively optimistic in equal measure, it seems even more relevant for us at the moment to learn from our socio-anthropological history."

"Geoff Dyer is an abundantly talented writer. His books can sometimes defy classification and this one is certainly a case-in-point. It is a book of thrillingly different halves, about middle-age, art and existence. And much more. I devoured it."

"I usually shy away from books that are so much about the male experience, but I continually marveled at Mr. Williams's ability to rivet the reader, and found myself audibly groaning at the lack of choices made by dear, sweet, myopic Stoner."

Good book, as expected, but not brilliant
As with most of his books, this was a brilliantly paced story. Where it failed, in my opinion was that it went overboard on the technical details, in his other books, the author was able to go far into the technical details, because he usually included a character that needed them explaining anyway, so the reader was told about stuff they didn't know, here, there was no such character.

This is one of the must have books.
Ikigai is a way of seeing life in a different light and finding what makes life worth living. After reading this book you will see life in a different and better way. On top the book is full of helpful advise from Japan about food or exercises for example.
This is one of the books you buy, keep it and you will read it over and over again ❤️❤️❤️

This is one of those rare books that I actually stayed up until 2am to read in one go. I think my favorite part about it was the unusual writing style employed by the author. The focus frequently switches between Hannah's voice on the tapes and Clay's reaction to her words in a coherent fashion that unlike some books is not confusing at all. If they ever made this into a movie I'd definitely watch it.
