Gareth von Kallenbach (971 KP) rated Ride Along (2014) in Movies

I will make this review quick and easy. This movie is simple. Simple pedestrian
story, simple shells of characters with no depth and simple jokes. This is the
kind of movie that you go watch, enjoy yourself and forget about ten minutes
after you walk out of the theater. Is that bad? Not as long as have the right
expectations going in.
If your expectations are the following, you will
have a good time:
– Fans of Kevin Hart going to see Kevin Hart be Kevin
Hart-lite
– Introducing your significant other or parents to Kevin Hart
(lite)
– Looking for a laugh at matinee movie prices
– Expecting to see a
simple version of the buddy cop genre
If your expectations are the
following, you will be disappointed:
– Expecting this movie to be as
funny as Friday because Ice Cube is in it
– Expecting Ice Cube to be
anything but devoid of personality
– Expecting Kevin Hart to be as funny as
his stand up
– Expecting the duo to do the buddy cop genre justice
That’s really about all there is to say about this film. Did I enjoy
myself? Yes I did, because I went in with the right type of expectations. But I
honestly cannot remember much about the movie or many of the jokes as I write
this review two days after watching it. So that should count for something.

Thor: Rargnarok took the best parts of a couple different Marvel Comics storylines, fused them together into an 80's buddy action comedy movie.
If you apperciated the tone of GotG, like Thor but not his movies you'll love this. Of the 17 films in the franchise this one is in the top half.
I am glad Hulk's Warbond, though not called as such in the film, survived. Hope to see more of Kord and Miek, maybe even a spin off of there own.

I enjoyed the fantasy aspects of this film. If you are looking to hard at this film with the lens of hype behind it you will be disappointed. If you are looking for a buddy cop film with fantasy aspects you will be content. Don't think to hard about what the critics say about this film and enjoy it. I was able to get my anti-scifi watching boyfriend to enjoy this movie.

Jack Lemmon (1 more)
Walter Matthau
Love To Hate, Hate to Love
Grumpy Old Men- is a classic. It mixes comedy, drama and romanic. Both Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are excellent in it, a dynamic duo.
The plot: John Gustafson (Jack Lemmon) and Max Goldman (Walter Matthau) are two curmudgeonly neighbors who have been at each other's throats for years. The rivalry of the former friends intensifies when Ariel (Ann-Margret) comes along and provides a love interest for both of them. When Max finds out that John is experiencing family troubles and financial ruin, however, he steps in to help. Their bond is further cemented when John has a health scare and Max makes the ultimate sacrifice for his friend.
This was the sixth film starring both Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, and their first pairing since 1981's Buddy Buddy.
Its a excellent movie.

Lou Grande (148 KP) rated Teratologist in Books

Like a Buddy Cop movie directed by Satan
THE TERATOLOGIST--a researcher of physical abnormalities--is both a disgusting and fun (short) horror novel. Something like a Buddy Cop movie, a writer and photographer go to the mansion of a young billionaire who collects people with birth defects for a single nefarious purpose: to see God.
If you've read Edward Lee's Infernal Series, you may notice the similarities in theme. It isn't just good vs evil, it's Good vs Evil. It has the same dash of irreverent humor and more than enough depravity to make it a fun read for readers with iron stomachs.
That said, this is absolutely not for the faint of heart. If you're easily offended, why are you looking at a book by Edward Lee and Wrath James White to begin with? Both are masters of the splatterpunk genre, which has given birth to the "extreme horror" subgenre. This book will gross you out. Even seasoned readers might cringe at some of the acts depicted in THE TERATOLOGIST. They disgust on a moral and visceral level, but isn't that the point?

I missed this one in the cinema when it came out (in 2017).
The only reason I've even heard of it now is due the the 2021 sequel.
Anyway, this is an action-comedy buddy movie starring Ryan Reynolds as a down-on-his-luck Bodyguard, who has to accompany Samuel L Jackson's hitman to a criminal hearing in The Hague where he is to give testimony against Gary Oldman's dictator.
With Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson on board, you know pretty much what to expect: bickering, gunfights, more bickering, swearing, bickering, gunfights ...

Mothergamer (1514 KP) rated Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) in Movies

Ron and I went to see this movie tonight with our buddy Jay. I had high expectations for it, and I was not disappointed. From the opening credits until the very end, the film is filled with great attention grabbing comic style fight scenes, along with a brilliant soundtrack to back it up. Another factor that made the film such a fun ride was the cast. It was clear that they had fun making the film and reveled in the roles they played. Michael Cera was great, but Kieran Culkin definitely stole the show as Wallace.
The movie is in the spirit of fun and it delivers in a humorous and entertaining way that's smart and doesn't take itself too seriously. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is a movie that is worth paying for to see in the theater and you should go see it if you haven't already.
