Touted to be the last film in the series, The Final Destination is even more disappointing than its predecessor and thankfully not the final outing for the franchise.

Utilising sloppy 3D effects that cheapened the film’s look was a bad move by director David R. Ellis and even the main disaster was uninspiring to watch – a NASCAR race just didn’t cut it after already having a vehicular disaster in Final Destination 2. The climax however, staged in a cinema, is incredibly clever.

Add to this some truly dreadful acting and awful dialogue and it makes for a low-point that thankfully was reversed just two years later. Unbelievably, this was also the most successful of the series.

This sequel to Final Destination is more of the same... No better or worse actually. It sticks to the same formula as it's predecessor (and all of the subsequent entries), and is pretty much where the semi decent FD sequels end.

The set up premonition is pretty good - Director David R. Ellis is better known for his extensive stunt directing, and it's shows in scenes like this.
The extra features included in the home release show that this scene was done almost entirely practically. I feel that this always makes a difference.

The extra features also reveal how a lot of the kills were achieved using practical effects, which again, is something I can truly respect and admire, even if they were polished off with the CGI.

The finished result is a film that isn't great by any means, but it is a fun ride, that follows on from the first film nicely.

The acting is hammy, but the cast are mostly fine, and even includes another cameo from Tony Todd 👍

A big stinking low
There's not a whole lot of positive things to say about the fourth entry into the Final Destination franchise.

For starters, there's not one character here to root for. Every one is unlikable - you could argue that the writers were trying to make them this unlikable on purpose, so we as an audience can revel in their inevitably over the top death, but that tactic doesn't work, as shown throughout this pile of horse sh*t.

At this point in the franchise, much like the third film, it feels as though the kills are the main draw.
And to be honest, it's all very boring this time around. The writers try to be creative here and there, but the overuse of CGI and 3D gimmicks on show make the death scenes unintentionally goofy and cheap looking, rather than having any of the shock value carried by the first two films.
The lack of practical effects is mind boggling, as once again, stunt co-ordinator David R. Ellis directs, the same man responsible for the fantastic highway scene in FD2. The extra features show that he used practical effects whilst filming but for some unknown reason, the finished film just has CGI spaffed over everything.

You're not missing out on much if you give this one a pass.
