TAMING THE DRAGON is the fifth book in the Sparks of Desire series, but you can read it as a standalone as I did.
Kaden has baggage in his past which is currently affecting both his present and his possible future. Fate has spoken and given him the perfect mate except for one small problem - she's human. His dragon doesn't have a problem with that, nor does anyone else in his family but, for Kaden, this is a BIG problem.
Avery is a strong young woman, confident in so many ways apart from her own self, thanks to the majority of her family. Originally, she believes Kaden couldn't possibly be interested in her but Fate won't be denied. They have issues to work out, that's for sure.
This was a great story that kept my interest. I do love it when the characters are not just straight-forward, without any issues. Kaden is the strong, silent type who has to learn how to share with others. And Avery has to believe she is good enough, just as she is. Kelly and Bella are on hand to help with that, and Kaden also has help with his issues.
Another fantastic read by this author, and absolutely recommended by me.

This is the story of Selene, a high school girl who has inner strength and wisdom but is trying to keep her head down and be as invisible as she can be until high school is over. This is mainly because her dad works at the local factory that is owned by the father of the bane of her life, Sandra. Sandra is a bully and is content to pick on Selene. This appears as nothing more than a spoilt little rich girl to start with but, as is typical in Dean's stories, nothing is quite as it seems.
These characters are all multi-dimensional with very real fears, laughs and loves. There is no insta-love in this story (thank goodness) although there is a reconnection that is made. These characters are all multi-dimensional with very real fears, laughs and loves. There is no insta-love in this story (thank goodness) although there is a reconnection that is made. The back story is given to you in a drip-feed fashion so that it doesn't overpower the current story but you are still getting the information needed for a deep understanding of what is happening.
This is a gripping story that will draw you in but one warning, it does come with a cliffhanger ending that will sucker-punch you and leave you gasping. If you like paranormal romance that comes complete with intense emotion then I can highly recommend this one. Another fantastic series by Dean Murray starts with a bang!

As someone who has always been interested in the Chinese Zodiac, I was intrigued when given the synopsis of this story. The Rabbit has always been one of the more 'mild-mannered' of the Zodiac so I was interested to see where this would go when partnered with the Tiger. Trust me though, you don't have to know anything about the Chinese Zodiac for this story to a) make sense and b) be absolutely fantastic. The storyline itself is gripping and you will find out more about the plague itself plus how the characters handle things as you go along.
All of the characters are interesting and amazing in their own right. For me personally, I was interested whenever Fang made an appearance (he's a rat) because that's what I am. All of the characters are interesting and amazing in their own right. For me personally, I was interested whenever Fang made an appearance (he's a rat) because that's what I am. The whole aspect of the Chinese Zodiac is one that I haven't seen before in Fantasy or Paranormal books and I am thrilled that Rachael Slate has made her stand in this way. It works, it really does.
The pace is steady throughout and very well written. The plot has depth and drama and will definitely leave you wanting more. I can't wait for By The Horns, which is book 2 in this series and is due out sometime this year. Definitely, absolutely recommended.

CURSED BY FATE is the first of four books in the Between Ruin and Salvation series and it starts off slow enough that you can figure out just who is who and what is going on, without being thrown in the deep end. It is a start that builds up momentum until you are left gasping at the cliffhanger. And what a cliffhanger it is.
I was thoroughly engrossed with the story, watching how the characters changed and grew as the situation changed. And how much did I curse at my Kindle when Ava and Makaii didn't meet when I wanted them to, or in the circumstances I wanted? One thing I loved was Ava's relationship with Derek. Seeing how it changed between them into something neither of them expected was fantastic. I'm now holding onto hope that Ava and Makaii will get their HEA without too many more horrible decisions and stubbornness getting in their way.
A strong, capable female MC with a ton of bad situations. Two adorable male MCs and a triangle that I've never had before. (And I don't even like triangles but this one had me intrigued!) And kick-ass witches that I want more from. This was an amazing start to a brilliant series and I can't wait to read more. HIGHLY recommended by me.

Different worlds, dragons, elves, evil yet misguided women - what more could you ask for?
Now, this is the first 'full' book in the Kingdom of Chalvaren series, although there is the novella in which our two main characters meet. What made this book interesting for me is that they were already 'together' right at the start. So although I knew that things had moved quickly in the prequel, it actually made for fantastic reading as the two of them got to know each other and explored their feelings for each other. Trust me when I say those feelings run hot! Their relationship has the normal ups, downs and misunderstandings that occur when two people are trying to live together and that made for excellent reading. Throw in a world in chaos, with a crazy woman trying to resurrect the dead along with killing the dragons, you have an action-packed world, full of character and heart.
With a smooth, steady pace and excitement on every page, this is a wonderful Fantasy Action Romance. I know that there are two books in this series but I am really hoping for more. I loved the world of Chalvaren and hope to see more of it, and the dragons, in the future. Highly recommended for all fans of Fantasy!

Now, this is the first 'full' book in the Kingdom of Chalvaren series, although there is the novella in which our two main characters meet. Mel is a detective who is one month away from retirement she cannot wait for! She's then lumbered with Nat, a rookie on a high-octane case with a lot at stake! As she gets to know her new partner/trainee, she likes the way she works and thinks. She reminds Mel of herself so finds herself guiding her in any way she can in trying to discover the true identity of The Reaper.
I enjoyed this story from start to finish. I was gripped from the start and was second-guessing all the way through. I genuinely hadn't got a clue whodunit it was a great surprise. I don't want to say too much about it as I don't want to give anything away but I was certainly confused. There is a lot of detail in this book that helps you make a picture of what is going on not enough to give you the answers but to get the finer details.
Rae Scott has got a way of writing that has captivated me from the start and kept me right through to the end. I'm hoping that there will be a second book and this can be made into a 2 part series or even more. It was fantastic!

Murder Preempts Author Event
Willa Bauer is thrilled to be hosting a stop for Phoebe Winston on her tour promoting her new cookbook. The celebrity chef is sure to bring in lots of people to Willa’s new cheese shop. However, when Willa meets Phoebe, she discovers the author is a bit of a diva, with demands that make the event a much harder prospect than Willa bargained for. Then Phoebe is murdered in the house she was renting in the area, with Willa’s employee Archie the last person on the property’s security system. Can Willa figure out what happened?
I enjoyed the first book in the series, but this was even stronger. We meet Phoebe long enough to know what a pain she is before she dies, but then we learn even more, opening up the suspect pool. The climax becomes a race to figure things out, and I was along for the twists that kept coming at that point. I was thrilled that the supporting players got a bigger role this time around. They are fantastic, and I enjoyed spending time with all of them. I grew up in Sonoma County, so I have a special connection with the setting even if I did have to move my mental map of the fictional town where most of the action takes place. This book will leave you hungry for cheese, so the three recipes at the end will be welcome. I’m already anxious to see what happens to Willa and the others in the next in the series.

In short, Belfast is a very human and truly wonderful piece of cinema.
It's visual style is both stunning and simple, and is brimming with plenty of striking imagery.
It's themes are rich. The setting explores the civil unrest between Protestants and Catholics in 1960s Belfast. This turbulent moment in time is a constant presence for sure, but the main bulk of the narrative deals with a working class family who are struggling with debt, and are looking to potentially relocate to England in light of the city wide violence. The very heart of the story though is found in Buddy, the young son of the family who is dealing with growing up and not wanting to leave. Buddy's actor, Jude Hill, is excellent. He embodies innocent childhood and the adventure that comes with it. He's an 11 year old actor, holding his own against screen veterans such as Ciarán Hinds and Judi Dench (both fantastic as always).
Other than Buddy, most of the heavy lifting is undertaken by the mother, played by Caitriona Balfe, who really deserves an Academy Nomination for her role here. Jamie Dornan also stars, who proved to be a pleasant surprise for me, only knowing him from the obvious, and is a welcome addition to an all round stellar cast. Throughout this, the narrative touches upon loss and loneliness, and the moments of life that manage to be bittersweet.
Belfast is a sometimes heartwarming, powerful, occasionally funny, and often melancholy tale told with a lot of love and care. Kenneth Branagh has delivered a slice of cinematic gold.
