My FAVORITE book
Fantasy meets punk in this coming of age story about a teen who has traveled to Bordertown, a place where magic is real and technology is spotty at best. He makes friends with a ragtag group of humans, elves, and halfies. I've read this book 3 or 4 times and it never gets old.

Sarah Betts (103 KP) rated River of Fire: My Spiritual Journey in Books
Dec 31, 2019
I received a copy of River of Fire from Random House Publishing Group through Netgalley.
One of the most noticable things about this book is the compassion in which it is written.
This is all that happened before Dead Man Walking (one of my all-time favorite books.)
I am not at all religious but enjoyed it very much.

Creeepy!!!!
This book I discovered when I was 10 and it's still one of the creepiest books ever to me. The slow build up of dread in a kids book is amazing.
Also Prof. Childermass is one of my favorite characters. Who wouldn't want to be a crotchety old dude with a fuss closet?

Sarah Betts (103 KP) rated Perfume: The Story of a Murderer in Books

One of my favorite books of all time.
An unloved man looks for validation. Sure, it sounds like a familiar story but how many protagonists are unloved because they have no scent? How many decide that because of this they must steal the scent of women?
This is one of the better examples of an unlikable protagonist.

Somehow Makes Creepy & Depressing Work
I don't usually like overly sad, weird, or creepy stuff. I know it has its place; it's just not my thing. The Black Parade checks all those boxes...and yet, it's among my favorite albums. Ever. No, I'm not sure what set it apart. But I'm glad I listened to it.
