Highly Entertaining
The Grand Budapest Hotel recounts the story of M. Gustave (Ralph Fiennes) and his adventures during a battle for an enormous family fortune. I have been avoiding this movie like the plague because the trailers didn’t really grab me. As it turns out, not only is the movie phenomenal, but it quickly became one of my favorites.

Acting: 10
Ralph Fiennes really makes this movie pop as Gustave. His wit is a huge part of his charm and impacts the way he acts out each scene. Characters like his are refreshing and hook you into the movie. I enjoyed Tony Revolori’s role as well playing bellhop Zero Moustafa. The two work so well together and enhance the movie as a result.

Beginning: 10
The beginning isn’t perfect, but I gave it a perfect score because it’s extremely intriguing. By the closing of the first ten minutes, I had a strong feeling I was in for a treat the rest of the way through. I was right.

Characters: 10

Cinematography/Visuals: 10
Director Wes Anderson is known for a specific style that’s so different from anything else out there and The Grand Budapest Hotel is no exception. Colors pop and images jump out at you in exactly the way he is trying to convey. His style, hard to explain at times, is hard not to appreciate and enjoy. When you watch a movie like this, you truly feel like you are getting a full-on cinematic experience.

Conflict: 10
There is a scene towards the back half of the movie that I call “The Escape”. It is action-packed yet has some subtle nuances at the same time. Definitely one of my favorite scenes in the movie, but not the only one hinging on conflict. Despite a comedic overtone, the film relies on a number of different points of tension to drive the plot.

Entertainment Value: 9

Memorability: 10
Gustave and Zero are easily one of my favorite duos since Jack and Rose in Titanic. They have a strange relationship, one that contributes to making the movie unforgettable. There are so many moments that stand out (the reading of the will comes to mind) making this a movie hard not to think about. It’s a movie you can watch a number of times and see something new each time.

Pace: 10

Plot: 10
Flawless storytelling. Magical and original. Enough said.

Resolution: 4

Overall: 93
2014 is one of my all-time favorite years for movies and it’s because of movies like The Grand Budapest Hotel. It takes storytelling to new heights with a crisp, original way of looking at filmmaking. This movie definitely made me a believer and a fan of Wes Anderson.

"It’s probably gonna be a very comedy-heavy list, but, one of my favorite movies is Superbad. Big Judd Apatow fan. I kinda always have been, still am, and that movie actually came out, like, my senior year of high school, so it was kinda like the perfect timing for me. It was right before me going to college, and if you remember Superbad, that’s what their whole quest was. Jonah Hill, Judd Apatow, Michael Cera, all those guys, Seth Rogen, Bill Hader — those are all still, to this day, some of my favorite comedians and actors to watch. That’s a big one for me."

Fair to Middlin'
I really wanted to love this movie. The Conjuring has been one of my favorite horror movies since its release. Sadly, this film relied on jump scares and predictable outcomes instead of the insidious creepiness that I loved in the previous movies. Although it does succeed in bridging the gaps between the two Conjurings, the storyline itself was weak and disappointing. With all the time it took to be released, I feel that a much better film could have been produced. Visually it was great. The Nun character is still as horrifying as before, but the movie glosses over the origin of the demon. I appreciated the few comedic bits, but overall this movie was a letdown.

Greatest sci-fi film of all time.
Not too often you can say a film is perfect in every way, but you can with 2001: A Space Odyssey. Screw movies of today which have to explain everything away or the movie itself is just a set up for the never-ending series of films to follow.

You have to appreciate the visuals, music, and unforgettable vagueness of this film and just soak it all in like looking at a beautiful painting by your favorite artist or listening to your favorite song and repeat it over and over again.

After seeing this movie 20+ times, I see new subtleties in it every time and enjoy it completely every time. Probably an acquired taste for today's generation of MCU fans, but certainly worth your time.

Christopher Lloyd is a Klingon
Lots of good character moments
Not as many memorable moments (though there are a few) (1 more)
Does kind of feel like franchise maintenance (bringing back a fan favorite character)
A good movie overshadowed because it's in between two great ones
Search for Spock is a good movie, but is largely forgotten because it is in between two great ones. There's just not as much here to make it noteworthy as in II or IV. There aren't really any major problems though and it is a fun watch.

A film everyone needs to watch at least twice
This is, hands down, my favorite movie of all time. There are several reasons, but to name a few:
1. The big reveal was fresh in 1999. A twist that made you immediately want to watch the movie over again.
2. The story is an amazing and unique idea only a brilliant author could ever manifest. (Chuck Palahniuk)
3. The soundtrack, cinematography, and editing was practically perfect
4. The pace of the film is spot on and the characters are well rounded and portrayed
5. Just see it if you haven't

One of my all-time favorite movies!
I love Deadpool, but the version in X-Men Origins: Wolverine was awful. Ryan Reynolds did his best but...ugh. So I was iffy about the premise of a full movie for the character. Would it just be a full-length rehash of the Wolverine mess?

No, I'm glad to say it is not. Deadpool is an action-packed, raunchy, romantic but not sappy, and character-driven movie that definitely left me wanting more. I'm glad I gave it another go and am really looking forward to the sequel.
