Katie Guinn (34 KP) rated The Girl on the Train in Books

This book. I don't even know what to say. It's been compared to Gone Girl, but I don't really think they have that much in common. I preferred the ending in this one, I like people to get their comeuppance. I felt bad for the main character, Rachel, I mean she had her issues, but I feel like deep down she's a good person. Anyway, if you like psychological thrillers, I recommend checking this one out!

The first time I watched this movie I was really drawn into the plot. I would have liked a little more background, but that's just my personal preference. The plot is angsty and can be kind of dark. The language can be offensive depending on your views, but I feel it fits the movies tone well. The acting was alright, but felt forced at some points. Overall it was a very good movie and would recommend watching it.

I read this book after seeing it recommended on the TWLOHA blog. While I didn't connect to it personally as much as I did with books like Jamie's own If You Feel Too Much or The Reason by Lacey Sturm of Flyleaf, it's good to understand that different books work for different people. If you felt the first two were too religious, this book is definitely for you, and if not, you may still find something worthwhile.

Great
This movie surprised me. The main actress played her part excellently. You could really feel her intense emotional turmoil throughout thr movie. The rest of the acting was decent enough but could've been better. The story line, while predictable at times, played out interestingly enough to keep you watching. The effects were done well. There were a couple disturbing scenes so it's not really for kids. Makes for a good date night thriller though. Worth a watch!

Chick lit
It started with a secret is about how one secret can lead to several issues down the line but also something beautiful.
I love the style of writing, it flows between characters seamlessly and cleverly. The story is very feel good and the characters fit in well.
My only small criticism is around the title, I think the secret is a little underwhelming when it comes out. All issues are resolved fairly quickly.

Great lead (2 more)
Good concept
Cliffhanger
Badass
The leading lady is so badass, the actress and/or stunt double has some serious skill in fighting in different disciplines. I like the story although I found some of it a little rushed.
The characters work well together and there are some funny bits. It also felt quite inclusive.
I want more and feel like there could be hundreds of other stories around the adventures of the old guard.

Dean (6927 KP) rated Operation Fortune: Ruse de Gurre (2023) in Movies

Well an ok Action Comedy film with a decent cast. Hugh Grant pretty much playing a billionaire version of his character from Guy Ritchie's @The Gentlemen (2020) complete with same voice. There are some good action scenes and some funny one liners. Despite the budget though it doesn't have a blockbuster feel to it and doesn't reach the heights of many similar films in this genre.

David McK (3576 KP) rated Bedazzled (2000) in Movies

Comedy film remake (I've never seen the original) from 2000 starring Brendan Fraser - here, at the height of his popularity following The Mummy films - and Liz Hurley, with the former playing a nerdy office worker who sells his soul to the devil (Liz Hurley) in exchange for seven wishes in order to gain the affection of a co-worker - wishes which, of course, never quite work out as he intended!
The result is an amusing enough 'feel good' comedy.
