JUMPCUT ONLINE (77 KP) rated Escape Plan: The Extractors (2019) in Movies

Stallone looks bored (eager to crack on with ‘Rambo: Last Blood probably) and Bautista feels more wooden than usual (probably engaged in Twitter exchanges with anti-James Gunn fans). They don’t want to be here, and don’t need to be here.

Even Wright's weaker efforts are superior to most everything else you are likely to see.
Baby Driver kind of feels like Wright was trying to prove he could do a film with less "Edgar Wright" style, which isn't a bad thing, persay. It's still better than most of the films it is clearly taking inspiration from, an manages to surprise you unlike most of those films. It's just not "Scott Pilgrim" or "World's End" good, which is another level entirely. It still shows incredible growth to make something like this, at this stage in his career. Saying it's one of his weaker efforts should in no way be construed as a slight.

Awix (3310 KP) rated Suburbicon (2017) in Movies

Period-set black comedy-thriller with Matt Damon as a pillar of the titular planned community, struggling to recover from the death of his wife in a burglary-gone-wrong. (Or is he...?) Actually based on a script set aside by the Coen brothers decades ago; it's tempting but fruitless to speculate as to how much of their work remains.
Quite well directed by Clooney, and the plotting is very smart, but a subplot about toxic racism feels intrusive and disconnected from the rest of the film - as a result what could have been a clever and understated film just feels like it's indulging in clumsy virtue-signalling. Would have been much better without the preachiness.

The Boy in the Cuckoo-Clock
This is the story about a boy that was born in the coldest day ever, and his heart froze, so, to save his life, the nurse replaced his heart for a Cockoo-Clock. The story is written by the boy perspective and it’s sweet the innocent way he thinks and feels.
“I wanted to go to school. I mean, who never tried strawberry’s with sugar wouldn’t order it for desert.”
He falls in love with this girl with big glasses. And it’s the story about how him and his Cockoo-Clock react to the way he feels about every feeling love can give

The backdrops and locations are truly beautiful (2 more)
Gunman, Pattinson, and Miller all deliver top class performances
A good insight into the class system and snobbery of the time
A script that could have been more creative (2 more)
Too many cliches
The script profession feels clumsy and flat
Beautifully shot, but with a flat script

One of the books everyone should read for it reminds us that we are only a part of the world, not the owners of it. Beautifully written but harsh and sad. Not a one I can love but I feel glad to have read it.
A book to keep, because it feels important.
