Season one very good season 2 moderate
Contains spoilers, click to show
Stranger things were a good retro feel your without it being heavy in it but it also had a good strong story. Nancy wheeler character having the love triangle felt confusing and didn't need. The boys group are funny landing the jokes. Jim hopper is a good sheriff and wanting to protect the female protagonist. But in the second season felt juggling too many individual stories on character. Too much

Good fun
This book was so much fun. I wasn't sure where the twists were going in the last half, which was interesting. I like that he wrote an intelligent, scrappy female protagonist without making romance a dominant storyline. She was a real person who felt rather real. Heck, the story felt really real. I expect there to be a moon station right now! I felt the same way about The Martian. I enjoy the science Andy Weir weaves in as well. A genuinely enjoyable book.

Hated the protagonist, but relatively good plot
Right up to the last five minutes I hated the main female character to the point of wanting to stop listening as it seemed she was weak enough to become an accomplice to hideous crimes. However, it was salvaged to a certain degree with the ultimate act.
The character of Frank was completely predictable, and I had assumed he was such relatively early in the story. The other killer/s seemed slightly waffley in the story - but it makes sense why they had little importance or explanation until the end. I found the idea that the police never checked anyone's computers for information not believable at all. Overall, while I thought the plot was dramatic, I spent too much time feeling irritated by idiotic nature of the female character.

I picked up reading the third story sometime this summer, read a decent bit, put it down, and haven't been able to resume reading. I think the main reason is that the writing is poor. Not to mention I enjoy the majority of newer books in this genre better. Even though LKH might have been the first (or at least one of the first) to write an urban fantasy book featuring a kick-ass female protagonist, she is one of the worst writers. I think I'll stop while I'm ahead. I'm kinda sorry I bought so many in this series now.

Second of a series set (so far) in the late 1950s in coastal Devon. Main protagonist is a female reporter for a local newspaper but has a past life in wartime naval intelligence.
I read the first book in the series a couple of weeks back and this one I received via Goodreads.
I enjoyed both stories, but I didn't think they were really great either in the way they were written or in the construction of the mystery plot. They were enjoyable enough books, but not quite so good that I want to hang on to them to read again.

Strong female protagonist (1 more)
Reminiscent of Grimm Fairytales
Favourite book read in 2018 (so far!)
The first thing I have to say about this book is wow. I went into it not knowing what to expect but was completely blown away by the storyline of Vasya as she navigates becoming a young woman who is powerful, in a time when women were not; whilst using old school magic to try to help her people.
The Russian folklore gives this book a modern fairytale feel, however the darkness echoes that of the original Grimm Fairytales.
Altogether, this is a very well written epic, not to be missed, and that I very much enjoyed.

Great Story telling
Everything Else
I want to Fight like Lila
I was introduced to V E Schwabs work in January by a friend and i pretty much read all her series in the space of a week an a half. However out of all of her books the darker shade series is my Favorite, Victoria creates an amazing world within world. Her characters are lovable and flawed than will make you love them more. Lila Bard is a fantastic Female protagonist and whilst Kell may be the lead there chemistry together is undeniable.
If you love fantasy good story telling magic mystery suspense then these books are for you!

Jennifer Garner brings justice...
Jennifer Garner returns to her Elektra action days with this revenge movie in the vein of John Wick and the like. Garner does well, both as the loving, doting wife and mother and as a vengeful vigilante. The action is fast and fluid from beginning to end with plenty of brutality and gore for fans of the genre. While a good movie and a welcome addition to the canon of revenge flicks, it really does nothing to elevate it. Still, some may see this type of film, with a female protagonist in the vigilante role, as a step forward in the current social climate. In the end, it was fun but nothing that will stick with the viewer after watching.
