Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated At Your Beck & Call: Tales of a male escort in Books
Jan 7, 2021
DNF@28%
This is my third book by the author, I think, and one thing I've noticed is she does a lot of background. And in this, I didn't care--AT ALL! I didn't care how he became an escort or what his clients liked or disliked.
I wanted him to meet this client he falls for and find out how he was going to make the relationship work with her considering his job and the mentioned age gap. Nowhere near that by 28% in--and 3 days later--so I'm giving up since I haven't enjoyed it much up til now.
I think I'm going to avoid this author in the future.

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Red at Night (Pushing the Limits, #3.5) in Books

3.5 stars.
After reading this I'm not sure I get the story title but other than that I liked this.
It was polar opposites attracting; the popular guy and the girl who's different, the loner.
I liked how they both changed. The found hope and a reason to be better, to believe that they could become better with each other in their lives. Overcoming obstacles and the past to hope for a better future.
I kind of wish the ending had been a little longer but knowing that they finally stood up for each other and that Stella was actually giving college a chance was enough for me.
Another nice YA romance from Katie McGarry.

David McK (3372 KP) rated The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in TV

The second of Marvel's post-Endgame TV shows s on Disney+ (after WandaVision), and this is a very different beast to its predecessor.
Whereas WandaVision was a (at times, plain weird) sitcomesque format with a central mystery of just what the heck is going on, this sets its stall out right from the start, with the show exploring the ramifications of what-is-now-known-as The Blip, whole also spending a large portion of the episodes dealing with Captain America's legacy, and with the super-soldier serum that first made him.
It also brings back some old characters from the movies (hello, Zemo. Hello, Sharon Carter) giving them further characterisation than they have had to date.

Tom Turner (388 KP) rated Tribune of Rome in Books
May 6, 2021
I had never heard of Vespasian below starting this book, and assumed that he was a fictitious character in the same vein as Sharpe or Hornblower, just in the Roman era. Obviously I was wrong, for he in fact became Emporer of Rome after Nero (kinda).
This added a level of intrigue to the story for me, obviously this book is only the beginnings of his story, as there are another 9 books in the series. But it's definitely got me hooked.
At times I got a little exasperated with stone of the tropes and plot conveniences used, but I'm giving Fabbri the benefit of the doubt, after all this was his debut novel.

Joe Goodhart (27 KP) rated Faction Paradox: The Brakespeare Voyage in Books
Nov 30, 2020
After four attempts (this fourth, and final, one was the most productive, reaching the 50% mark), I am giving up on 'The Brakespeare Voyage'. There were some great concepts, interesting even, but by the mid-point, I just had had enough. The story's narrative was awkward after a while, with it changing from Scarratt to Nebaioth to transcripts. It was just too much. I found Daniel O'Mahoney's FP entry, 'Newtons Sleep' as well as Lawrence Miles' 'This Town Will Never Let Us Go' to be far easier to finish. It's a pity, as I've heard such praise for this one, but for me, it just felt like too many ideas/concepts at one time!

Thank you to Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book. I'm sorry I really am,I really REALLY wanted to like it and I could lie and tell you I did but I really didn't and I was always told honesty is the best policy (but please don't hate me,I'm a fragile soul) I had heard amazing things about this book but for me it fell flat. It made me cringe which is half the reason why I just didn't enjoy it. It wasn't for me that is all,but I promise there are so many people out there that adore this book unfortunately I just wasn't one of them.
