Great Drama
I heard a lot of good things about this film. By far the best thing about it is Micky Rourke performance of a once popular wrestler in the 80's now 20 years on making appearances on the small time circuit to try and make ends meets. It's a sad, touching drama of someone who has a fall from grace, struggling to carry on doing what they love and trying to put things right from where they went wrong in the past. It has a raw gritty feel to it and made on a low budget but it doesn't deter from the great acting on show. Might be a bit slow for those who are not in to dramas.

Preacher - Season 1
Preacher - Season 1

I LOVED IT
This show is based on the comics of the same name, by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, and retains all the black humour, sick scenes and top notch dialogue of the comics.
The plot sees Preacher Jesse Custer somehow imbued with Genesis, a divine presence that gives him the power to tell people what to do. His conflict with local businessman (meat and electricity, what an empire!), Quincannon sees him try to use Genesis to convince the town that God exists.
This is a gritty, dark comedy with moments of genuine laugh out loud jokes as well as truly disturbing but life-like scenes.
Given how well this was delivered, I cannot wait to see how Amazon's treatment of The Boys plays out!

premise
I was hoping for so much more, yet it delivered, but not what it could've.
I read the book a while back, and had forgotten enough of it for this to feel new. But although it was pretty and gritty the way it should be, it was missing something that I can't put my finger on. The scenes were confusing on purpose, so you didn't really understand what's going on the way the lead charecter didn't. I think it would have been much better if you'd been let in on the secrets earlier on, and got to see the whole thing unfold. instead you have to watch it again to really get it, and by that point you really don't want to revisit it.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954)
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954)
1954 | Adventure, Drama, Family
In an attempt to make room for his production work, and to off-set his type-casting as hard nosed dramatic anti-heroes, Douglas took on a lighter supporting role in this adventure film, opposite James Mason as Captain Nemo. Stripy shirted Ned Land was no less macho than we had come to expect of him, but there was a degree of fun hitherto unseen in his career to date. Shot in Technicolor, with the grandeur of Cinemascope, it brought a whole new audience to his work, that may have previously avoided the gritty melodramas he was associated with. Many remember Douglas as the most exciting part of the film, as his insatiable energy dominates the mild style of Mason and eats up the screen.
