I haven't seen all the Fast and the Furious films, but you know me, I love a good action film with explosions and things so I thought, why not?! I got up early Easter Sunday and took myself to the cinema for Fate of the Furious. I'm really glad I did. It might not be the best films ever made, but it was really enjoyable... and ladies... Jason Statham with a baby... your ovaries will ache, and I'm not even particularly particularly keen on him!

So young, so pretty.... Kill them all Jason!
A very good game based on the film franchise that came about via the kickstarter website. You can tell this was created by fans of the franchise, one of the biggest backers is a playable character in the game. The attention to detail is great. I've watched the first 4 films again recently and the layouts for the maps are the same as the films. Little details like the look of the cabins and interiors are true to the films as well.
I've read that Kane Hodder did some motion capture for the Jason character and SFX expert Tom Savini had an input on some of the kills.
The game is simple survive and try to escape as a counsellor or kill them all as Jason. The graphics are good with the moonlight and thunderstorms at night looking realistic. As with the film the music adds great tension, even better on surround sound during the storm!
There are a few offline challenges, closely taken from the film scenarios. Also a virtual cabin which acts as a museum of sorts with details about the films.
There are a couple of flaws, wait times for a lobby can be annoying, quitters, time it takes to level up and unlock some items. Also sometimes getting stuck on scenery when shifting. All these are quite minor though.
Overall you can sense the love and detail that has gone into this game, a great achievement for a crowd funded venture. Time to go camping... Think I'll take this old hockey mask with me.

Good review. I.myself was very disappointed with how the game ended, all because of that stupid lawsuit. I was really looking forward to more characters and a single player story mode. I was an early adopter of this game so playing it through all the glitches and bugs and server issues (more than there are now) Was well worth the wait for where it is now. But I'm still left wanting more.

Yes it's a shame, there was a recent update to fix some bugs. Hopefully fixed wait times for games. Still good fun to play.

Good fun
All good fun and I found myself chuckling on occasion. With Jason Sudeikis starring I knew there'd be some bawdy humour, as evidenced by the showing of a swollen testicle and one of the other characters referring to her sex life as "throwing a hotdog down a hallway". I don't particularly like that puerile stuff but putting it aside this film was entertaining enough as we watch 4 acquaintances become a pretend family who then develop a warmth and love for each other, all the while trying to transport marijuana in an RV from Mexico to America whilst being pursued by a drug boss. It's not cerebral in anyway so just an easy watch.

Sleepaway Camp 1984: Not The Final Chapter
Well its been a good Friday The 13th, i reviewed Parts 2 and 3, and to conculded Friday The 13th, I though reviewing Part IV aka The Final Chapter aka Not The Final Chapter. Siskel and Ebert said it perfectly in their review of this movie, that even though its called "The Final Chapter", it wont be the final chapter, their will be more to come, cause it gets alot of money.

Also my third favorite charcter is in this movie and that's Crispin Glover's charcter. Behind Jason and Shelby of course. I also like the kills in this movie. Axel- throat slit, and head turned around. Paul- Spear in the crotch, Jimmy- he stabbed him with a corkscrew and a meat clever.

Part IV- recaps parts 1, 2, and 3. Which is great, telling the story about Jason and showing his kills.

And of course you cant forget about Tommy Jarvis. This started, his trilogy. Tommy is my 4th favorite charcter.

The plot: A carefree lakeside vacation is interrupted by the re-emergence of killer Jason Voorhees (Ted White). After he escapes from a morgue, leaving bodies in his wake, Jason travels to Camp Crystal Lake where a group of friends is staying. The teens meet some locals: Tommy (Corey Feldman) and Trish (Kimberly Beck), as well as secretive hiker Rob (Erich Anderson). As the group of teenagers engages in drunken debauchery, their numbers begin to dwindle, and pieces of the past resurface.

See next Friday The 13th.

What a great laugh. Where other spy spoof films have focused too much on the comedy and not bothered with a decent story, this feels more like a decent spy film with a good amount of comedy injected in.
Jude Law plays pretty much every role he has ever played, as does Jason Statham - to hilarious results.
Peter Serafinowicz is great as an Italian sex pest (like a young Berlusconi).
Melissa McCarthy is simply brilliant in this film, at times soft and sensitive, then hard and uncompromising.
Even Miranda Hart doesn't manage to spoil it!

Never Hike Alone (2017)
Never Hike Alone (2017)
2017 | Horror
Never Hike Alone is a hell of an accomplishment - a fan made film based on Friday the 13th that is as good, maybe even better, than the best entries in the main franchise.

It's premise is simple - a survival/hiking enthusiast is collecting footage for his YouTube channel when he accidentally stumbles across the remains of Camp Crystal Lake, resulting in a one on one fight for his life when he discovers that Jason Voorhees still resides there - and it's short runtime (clocking in at just under an hour) make for a no-filler, sharp-shock slice of slasher goodness.
It carries a lot of tension, the first half being relatively calm as protagonist Kyle (Drew Leighty) explores the remnant of the camp. Fans of the original film will surely get a kick out of recognisable landmarks, including the bed that Kevin Bacon was skewered through. It's a nice way of showing that this short is a true love letter to the franchise. Kyle is a likable and believable lead who's survival skill set makes him a good match for the big bad.
When Jason eventually shows up, he's damn scary! This version of Jason is just relentless. He's quick, heavy footed, and smashes through doors like they're not even there. Director Vincent DiSanti fills the shoes of Jason, and his tall and broad figure make for a genuinely intimidating version of this beloved horror icon.
He looks fantastic as well, it's clear that a lot of effort was put into his make up and costume.
Top all of this off with a cameo from Thom Mathews himself, and what you get is a recipe for a successful short film, made for fans, by fans.

Never Hike Alone is a real treat for anyone who even has a passing interest in Friday the 13th. Hats off to Womp Stomp Films for their great work.

The guiltiest of pleasures
It's always fun and when we get something like this.- two horror icons going toe to toe, but was Freddy vs. Jason ever destined to be a good film?

No. No it was not. Freddy vs. Jason is pretty damn terrible.
The human cast are hugely unlikable - but I imagine that's the point, as when the slaughter begins, it's easy to find yourself rooting for the killers.

The effects have aged pretty badly, but for all it's shortcomings, it's definitely the kind of movie I will always watch when it's on. Its fun enough to be enjoyable.

It's hard to imagine anyone but Robert Englund in the role of Freddy, so it's nice to see him once again in a more modern film before he was recast.
In terms of horror - it's not a particularly scary film, but its pretty gory - and the kills are pretty ludicrous.

Worth a watch just for what it is.

Rescued (Rescued Hearts #1) by Felice Stevens
Rescued is the first book in the Rescued Hearts series, and we start off with Jason and Ryder. Jason has just finished with his long-term girlfriend, and Ryder has been alone for a long time, although he has his pitbull, Pearl, to keep him company. Ryder's life hasn't been that great, although he was born with the proverbial silver spoon. You find out just what a first class piece of work his mother is! Watching these two get together was superb. After Jason worked his own stuff out (which I do understand) I really didn't want Ryder to fall back in Jason's arms so quickly. Still, that's just one small point, and certainly did not affect my enjoyment of this story.

Exceedingly well written, with a sweet story, and hot and sexy intimate scenes, you really do get the best of both worlds with this book. I loved the characters, and the world-building, and would highly recommend this book.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go and get the second book!

The Aftermath (2019)
The Aftermath (2019)
2019 | Drama, Romance, War
Yet another Keira Knightley costume drama about well-brought-up people grappling with their repressed emotions. This one is set in post-war Germany where KK is an army wife reunited with her officer husband (Jason Clarke doing an English accent), but she ends up knocking off the German widower (Alexander Skarsgard) whose house they have commandeered.

Decent production values but the performances aren't good enough to lift a story which feels trite, hackneyed and inconsequential. No sense of passion or danger, hard to care about anyone or anything in the movie; it's just incredibly dull and predictable.

The Chosen One
What was this film, like honestly? It makes no sense at all. Its confusing, the action/cgi effects are hilariously bad and a waste of early 2000's metal music. Overall it is a weird but fun movie to watch. Jet Li and Jason Statham do a good job in this film. This film is a mix of like six different genres from sci-fi to action to martial arts to whatever else. By the end of the movie, i was overall confused but entertained. Thanks early 2000's for coming up with this movie.
