It's good but could be better
It's an above average film with some real funny moments but the plot is a bit basic and doesn't feel like it flows well in places. Still worth a watch but it's just that a one watch film.

Watched today and I rather liked it alot from the runtime under an hour which is right for presentation not a movie and its filmed in black and white which was just right so much to like even from a certain creature that a lot of marvel fans will know instantly

"My first girlfriend used to listen to Joni Mitchell, and the album that she got me into was Court And Spark. I was 15 or 16 when I first heard it, and the acoustic playing is more like a jazzy sort of thing. I found that really cool. “I love her style as a guitarist, and I love the songs on that album, too. They’re quite funny, and they put you in a certain mood, like Free Man In Paris and People’s Parties. I like it a lot more than Blue and a lot more than Hejira, and the other ones that people go on about. It’s just really good. “Nick Drake’s Pink Moon [1972] also deserves a mention as a very important acoustic album for me. Can we have it as a bonus record?"

"I think it's one of my favourite records of the last 20 years. I hadn't really listened to them that much and we were going to work with Dave Sitek. While on our way to NY to record with him in 2008, I thought, "I should probably give them a proper listen". It slowly unveiled its power - it's very dense and like nothing else I've ever really heard. I think it's very unique in the way it was made and it feels like it's a distillation of those characters at that time in NY. The lyrics are incredible, I like that it's political - it's not blatant, there's no sloganeering, but it is politically charged. There's no lead track: the way that it's sequenced is off-kilter but in its way makes sense. It's just great."

"I typically don’t like Western-type movies that much, but Red Hill. I really enjoyed that. I’m very picky about the bad guy, and whether or not he looks intimidating to me, you know? Like, I saw the I Spit on Your Grave remake, and all of the bad guys looked like soap opera actors that let their stubble grow. They didn’t have the aura of being a badass. And I’m sorry to those actors. They’re probably going to ****ing hate me, but this didn’t come across as intimidating or scary or anything, or even convincing as criminals, whereas this guy in Red Hill was the best bad guy I’ve seen in a long time. Just when he would look, he would look scary as ****. I love a bad guy that really convinces me."

The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
2014 | Comedy, Drama

"Grand Budapest Hotel is probably my favorite movie ever. I don’t know why, but it makes me feel so safe, and anytime I’m even remotely stressed, I’ll put on that movie and I feel like it transports me to another universe. It was the first Wes Anderson movie that I ever saw. The thing that sticks out to me the most is the humor. I find the movie really, really, really funny. And then of course the set design and the way that it’s shot – everything is so gorgeous. But for me it’s just one of those movies that keeps you on your toes. You never really know [what’s going to happen]. It’s a simple, classic, good story that’s just told so beautifully, that it feels so artful and considered, and I just really appreciate that. This list makes me realize that I really appreciate a director with real perspective, and the films are very stylized. That’s my vibe, and I think the Grand Budapest is an impeccable example of that."

I’m a bit of a fan of dystopian fiction. I say “a bit” - I like it a lot. It’s just that I tend to dream about what I read, and a lot of dystopian fiction can be quite scary. So I had a few nights dreaming about killer trees and plants, drones that just want to shoot you, and people that want to eat other people (potentially - that becomes clearer as the book goes on!).

It’s entirely believable though (in MY head, anyway!). Some catastrophe has happened in the past that has rendered all technology completely useless - unless you have the gift, that is. And Koli, it turns out, has. Except he’s not supposed to, and he’s exiled from his village.

Tech is considered to be like magic, and so when Koli actually manages to switch something on and learns how it’s done - it’s a revelation!

This first book is really just the set up for the next one I think, where we get to know the main characters of the next book (Koli, Ursala, the Drudge), and I’m definitely up for book 2!

Terry Crews recommended The Thing (1982) in Movies (curated)

The Thing (1982)
The Thing (1982)
1982 | Horror, Sci-Fi

"The next one is The Thing, the remake with Keith David. That was the first Rated-R movie my mother ever let me see, and oh, dude, I was scarred. I was scarred in a good way. [laughs] John Carpenter’s The Thing took me to a whole other place, man. I was like, “Oh my god!” It was almost like losing your virginity. [laughs] Remember what I said about coming out of the theater a different way? The Thing was so violent and so creatively crazy, no one had ever seen anything like that on screen. You know, heads growing legs and walking away? I think Rob Bottin was the special effects guy on that. But, you know, heads ripping themselves off, dogs having three heads, it was just “Oh my god, there’s no stopping this!” One of my favorite movies; if it’s ever on, I can’t turn it off. I just can’t. It’s impossible. And the thing is, you see how most of the movies that I’m mentioning have always had copies, you know what I mean? It’s like, any movie that’s out there, you can see they’re trying to be like The Thing, or they’re trying to be like Aliens. It’s so wild how you see this kind of dynamic, because it changed for those filmmakers when they saw it too. So those are my top five for today. I tell you, that’s so hard to say. [laughs] Again, I love movies man. I just love it."

Just a suggestion here, why not add the ability to recommend similar movies, books, games etc to what you are reviewing. A box that would then serve as a link to those recommendations might help people find other items that they may enjoy. If a particular thing has multiple suggestions that it is similar to something that could then be added to the main page of the item. For example Gone girl might have a link to something like Girl on the Train.

Probably of more general use on the item page. Then if you are browsing, for example to find a film you u might want to watch now, you can go to one you have previoysly liked for suggestions.

As bad as expected
I'll be honest, this really isn't my kind of comedy so I went into this expecting not to like it and that is precisely how it turned out.

For a comedy, I didn't really think it was funny at all. I may have tittered once or twice but that was about it, it was just ridiculously stupid. What was most surprising though was that a large part of the film was pretty sentimental, and that didn't really fit either.
