Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2398 KP) rated Death of a Halloween Party Monster in Books

Cold Costumed Corpse
This story features Lee Hollis’s series star Hayley Powell, who is hosting a Halloween party at her new restaurant. However, the night ends in horror when the body of the high school music teacher is found in the freezer. Is one of Hayley’s friends a killer?
I don’t read this series, just the novellas when they are part of an anthology I want to read, but I found myself feeling right at home partying with these characters from the beginning of this story. I did figure out one aspect of the story early on, but there were several more, including the identity of the killer, that I hadn’t pieced together until Hayley did. It’s a twist on a locked room mystery, which is always fun. The ending was great and kept me turning the pages. There are also some recipes to enjoy while you read or at a party you are hosting this Halloween.
NOTE 1: This is a novella, so expect something shorter than a typical novel before you pick it up.
NOTE 2: This novella was originally in the Halloween Party Murder anthology. If you’ve already read it there, you don’t need to buy it again here.

Watched last night first time never heard of the movie until few months back when it was announced coming out on blu ray in the UK so I thought let's see if its any good. This movie was made during the 80s fad for slasher movies trying to make there own version of Halloween or Friday the 13th its not perfect by any means you've got usual type of characters who are mainly there to die at the hands of the killer one of them was in the second Friday the 13th movie. And there's the costume the killer wears the collage mascot with claws not very frightening when u see it overall decent horror movie but not perfect. I give the film a 7 but overall I give the blu ray version a nine among things arrow films have done fantastic job of restoring the movie there are some scenes in the film that couldn't be restored but overall good job and then there's the extras firstctheres a Commentary by two film critics and then there's the best part is the interviews with the ladies who play the the would be victims or final girls as they share there memories of the film overall good package highly recommend 👍

Leocadia arrives home from school to find her mom’s body. Unaware that the killer still lingers, she rushes to her mother’s side, only to be grabbed from behind. And everything fades to black.
Leo has been battling personal demons after a year of retrograde amnesia. She’s been having vivid dreams of that day. And her dreams are getting worse—she’s starting to remember. Two more bodies are discovered and they are oddly linked to her mom’s unsolved homicide.
Leo befriends her new neighbor. He’s eager to visit Star Hallow’s notorious haunted mansion. It’s located on a deserted cul-de-sac where she once lived and where her mom was murdered. But it’s the Lucien Estate, the mansion next door to her old home, where they happen upon misty ghosts, ghosts that just might help to unravel the homicides.
Will Leo's memories send her reeling into a relapse, or will she be able to overcome her demons to find her mother’s killer – only to become the next victim?
It was good a very simple story and a little predictable. There was a lack of excitement and spark but it wasn’t a bad read.

Great cast (1 more)
Original idea of the killings based on Urban Legends
A cool, slick, Slasher film
This is a cool Slasher film that had a similar vibe to Scream and I know what you did last summer. It was released just after those films. The cast was very popular at the time including Robert Englund of Freddy fame and others from big teen shows at the time. Definitely one for Slasher fans with plenty of twists to keep you guessing who the Killer is, including the obligatory creepy janitor. If you missed it give it a whirl.

Jaw dropping at times but some inconsistencies
There were moments where I actually applauded the writing after finding out another piece of information and twist to this non-stop thriller. The snappy writing allows you to stay engaged with the story and the endless plot turns make it all the more intriguing.
I had a few qualms however. Some of the action sequences were bordering on Hollywood and were totally unbelievable, making Alex Cross seem invincible. And the serial killer narrative that went parallel to the story seemed almost pointless although it was at times even more engaging.

Overrated
I can see I'm in the minority here, but I really thought this film was overrated.
I love Edgar Wright, but I found myself so bored watching this. Yes it has a killer soundtrack and was very stylish, but I found it to be more style over substance. The main plot was boring and I found a lot of the characters to be a little irritating - Jamie Foxx's character especially. The only highlight was the fabulous Kevin Spacey and the few laughs it managed to raise in far too long a run time.
