"The Lady Vanishes is one of the great World War II films. I honestly might have seen it two dozen times. I adore it, each and every scene. As I adore almost every Hitchcock film. And, in passing, I have to mention the greatest book on Hitchcock, which is also one of the finest on film and on the creative process in general, Truffaut’s marvelous work called Hitchcock, in which he interviews Hitchcock about his films. As for Mike Leigh, he is one of my most treasured filmmakers. I love his subject matter, and I love his actors. I shouldn’t admit this, but part of the reason I love his actors so much is that I can think of no other director, no one, who works with his actors in ways so similar to my own. We could sort of be the same person as directors. And Topsy-Turvy is one of my favorite of all Mike Leigh’s films because, except for the actors who appear in it, it resembles no film he had ever shot before. The style is different. The content is different. And it’s about the theater!"

When the piano player of a jazz band is killed, Hannah springs into action to find his killer. Meanwhile, she's also looking for a way to stop Hannah from marrying Dr. Bev. The characters were great as always, and the mystery was fun. But the Norman/Dr. Bev story was unrealistic. I'm hoping, however, that it is leading to the end of the Hannah/Norman/Mike love triangle.

So, for the last few months, I haven't even been calling this film by it's proper title, I've just been calling it Rami's movie (he went to my Alma Mater).
I thought Rami did an amazing job. The music of Queen is, of course, great, so no complaints there. The recreation of Live Aid was really amazing. I did enjoy Mike Meyer's having a role, where he made a comment that no one would ever head bang to Bohemian Rhapsody. I thought it was well-paced and I was never bored during it.

This is not Resident Evil.
When I bought this, on a whim with no real research, I though I was getting a zombie game. What I got was not zombies, though it had somewhat of a resident evil feel the game is way off script. Without really giving details I can't explain it any better than this. You remember the Halloween series? Most of the movies followed Mike Meyers and his antics. Except for one somewhere in the middle that had nothing to do with him. That movie is this game.

Not as good as the others
After saving the President twice before you would think that Mike Banning would have a not been one of the first people suspected of organising a hit on the Potus, but that is the conclusion arrived at on circumstantial evidence...

Pretty standard action film fare, quite predictable and not as good as Olympus and London but still worth a watch if you are an action movie fan or a fan of the series...
Or just like hearing Morgan Freeman speak...

Scottoline has managed to do it again...another book that was hard to put down, with believable characters & plot. This one tells the story of Dr. Scanlon, a podiatrist who is serving as a combat surgeon in Afghanistan when he learns his wife has died at home from a knife wound. Mike returns home to bury her & that's when the intrigue begins. Just when I thought I had it figure out I was thrown another curveball. This was a heartbreaking & heartwarming story of war, family, love, loss, & rediscovering yourself after tragedies that seem like they will never end.

Bafflingly impenetrable crime drama. A young woman is found dead from a gunshot wound; assigned to the case is veteran homicide detective Mike Hoolihan (Clarkson) who finds it opens up many unanswered questions from her own past, raising many demons.

Sounds fairly straightforward, but film's many strange pretensions - discussion of quantum theory, astrophysics - and dourly humourless tone make it intensely hard work. Why does title not include word 'the'? It's a mystery. Why does this review not include word 'the'? Well, you've got to do something for entertainment, and this film certainly doesn't fit bill. Feels weirdly incompetent on many levels.

A rare insight
I have always liked Mike Harding and this book gives a real insight not just into his childhood but also life in Manchester in the years that followed the second world war. Reading this made me laugh at the real life incidents but also made me ashamed and embarassed about what was happening under the publics nose. I look forward to the next book as this only covers up until he left school and started working for the road department. A good read and well worth the time :)

"Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? — that’s another one I rewatched recently. When I first saw that movie it made me feel bad. I didn’t fall in love with it. I loved The Graduate when I first saw it, but [Virginia Woolf], I wasn’t excited by it, because it seemed like there was a negativity about it. But when I watched it more recently I thought it was the most beautiful, inspired, exciting movie. Mike Nichols is one of the most inventive directors that we’ve had, and that’s one of the great, you know, it’s a great movie, and a stunning first film."

"I’m a huge Mike Leigh fan and would love to work with him. His approach to filming sounds fascinating and exciting. I understand that he doesn’t give his actors a script but instead hands them scenes and encourages improvisation. I’m not sure if this is indeed his process, but the result is nothing short of beautiful intimate moments. And this film is full of them! At times it feels so intimate it’s almost voyeuristic. To me, that’s what makes a performance really exciting…when you’re almost embarrassed to be peeking into peoples’ lives. And that happens a lot in this perfect emotional drama."
