All mothers love their children, don't they?
I read this book as a new mother, I knew it was going to be tough and I knew it was going to be disturbing. Perhaps I did underestimate it though as this was one of the most disturbing books I have ever read. I was absolutely hooked and couldn't put this book down. I adore books that have a strong emotional impact on me and this just left me totally shook. What this mother was willing to do to get her 'freedom' back was bone-chilling.

Nicole Hadley (380 KP) rated Ten Cents a Pound in Books

Ten Cents a Pound by Nhung N. Tran-Davies is a short, poetic, back-and-forth conversation between a mother and daughter. This is the story of a unnamed young girl whose mother is working hard so that her daughter may have a better life. It tells many stories within the pages that are filled with heart warming illustrations. It is the story of a mother's love, of hope, determination, a child's love and concern for her mother and for the giving of each, so that they may both be safe, and happy.
The book simultaneously draws attention to the difficulties of living with low wages, while optimistically looking forward to the opportunities and possibilities of the future due to education.
The lovely illustrations are both realistic and wistful, and while this story may require some additional explanations for young children, it paints a beautiful picture of determination and potential.
I received a ARC from Second Story Press via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I give this book 4/5 stars.

A simple yet clever book to read to children. They will love the illustrations, I know I did, as the story unfolds about a mother and her cubs. A strong message is put in a way that the children will enjoy and remember, rather than just being scared.

A vampire story you can sink your teeth into
I credit Anne Rice with my love of vampire novels and series. It has become a lifelong reading habit.
If you love a good vampire book, you need to read the one written by the Queen Mother of all vampire series. It takes you through the centuries of Louis the vampires life, how he came to be, who his friends are, who he meets and what happens. It's a long, winding tale of intrigue, betrayal and love.
I love the rich history and the detailed characters, background and psychology. Rice is a great writer, creates a detailed world within out world, that you find yourself falling into and falling in love with.
Pick this up, you will be hooked and there's more books, so you won't be dissapointed.

SunnyD (6 KP) rated Lady Bird (2017) in Movies

Not extraordinary
If you love the starting actress, Saoirse Ronan, and indie films, then this is a fairly good watch. Lady Bird's relationship with her mother is the main theme here. The two continuously butt heads. At first, Lady Bird says that her mother is hard on her because she loves her so much, but it later gets harder for Lady Bird to accept their rough relationship as she questions whether her mother loves her because she has to or if she actually likes Lady Bird as a person. Her mother struggles to maintain their relationship while keeping their household afloat financially, especially after her father is laid off from his job.
I liked that, in addition to the mother-daughter theme, Lady Bird goes through a journey of selfdiscovery that starts when she dates her first crush at her Catholic high school. Lady Bird learns more about herself and those closest to her with every decision that she makes.
The quality of the ending might be up for some debate. If you're looking for real closure here, you won't be getting one. Ultimately, what happens after Lady Bird gets to college is up to your interpretation. The only thing that leaves your mind at some peace is that Lady Bird seems to learn to be grateful for what she has been given in life.

I love it
So me my sister and fiancé have been watching alot of films, I have seen this one a few times on Netflix and ordered it the other day, it finally came through and we all sat down to watch, my sister and fiancé said how shit they thought it was, me on the other hand loved it, everyone knows I love a budget comedy horror.
Sad opening when a mother is put down because she stared in a cheesy 80s slasher, now older and wiser she has a daughter max, you see there bond and relationship very fast and you see how it was taken away in one quick car crash, on the anniversary of Max's mums death she goes to the cinema to watch the film her mother was in, a fire breaks out and in a swift exit behind the screen a handful end up within the film. It's a comical fight to live and it pulls on plenty of heart strings as max is reunited with her late mother. I personally thought it was a brilliant cheesy, funny film and definitely worth the watch!!!

There’s Something Wrong With Aunt Beth
By Mark Towse
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
There's Something Wrong with Aunty Beth' is a collection of my favourite horror journeys, the best of the best I've taken to date. Twenty terrifying tales with something to suit all horror fans, from straight-up dread to signature Towsey weird. You'll never be the same again, and that's a Towsey guarantee. Within these haunted pages, you'll also find my new novella, 'Mother Dearest.'
Mother: A word that should summon trust, loyalty, love, and protection. But what if something begins eating away at such security, slowly transforming said Mother into something else entirely?
This is a compilation of short stories and everyone of them is dark, haunting, frightening and fun to read if you love horror. I always manage to find stories in these kind of books that I don’t like and end up skipping through but NOT this one! I recently discovered this author and I’m so glad I did his work is just brilliant. Do as Aunt Beth tells you!
