This program is multifaceted and shows the change in characters as the plot deepens. The main characters are all believable and that is what makes it stand out so well. Back linking to other events means you can find something new to pick up on if you watch it more than once, which I have!

This isn't a bad book, none of the Discworld books Are, I just don't think it's quite as strong a story as many of the others I've read. Teppic is a great character, it was good to find out more about the assassins guild and I like the fact that it was set in the time of mummies and pyramids. My issue mainly is that the plot gets a little too bonkers and for my tastes there wasn't as much humour in this.

I picked this book up for something like £2 in The Works (kinda like Bargain Books), and now I know why.

Set during the Wars of Marlborough, I was hoping for an exciting and interesting story during which I might learn something new. Unfortunately, the novel was pretty bland: both in plot and execution. The prose was never really that gripping; none of the characters were that interesting and elements of the plot were just, well, silly.

In short: meh.

Sleeping Beauty or The Snow Queen?

Even though I liked the book I didn't see the connection to Sleeping Beauty. I drew more parallels to the Snow Queen. The curse that strips someone of emotion all the references to ice get my point? I mean, there are SEVERAL versions of the Sleeping Beauty tale none of which I saw.

Yes, Jade is given a storybook with that particular tale but that's the only time I saw the connection. It honestly makes me sad.

"Another widescreen movie, this one has American cars and roads, drivers and mechanics. The seventies saw quite a number of films with images of automobiles and white lines, and the smell of gasoline and roadkill. None are quite like this one directed by Monte Hellman. At some point, Warren Oates says something like “everything is too fast and not fast enough.” This film is a major reference if I ever need to shoot something in and around cars on roads."

"This is sheer bliss and existential wonderment. It should be required viewing—not just for filmmakers but for people in general. It stitches together all the Apollo missions into one beautiful trip to the moon and back. The voice-overs from the astronauts are so poignant—these are men who have been to the moon and have seen things that none of us will ever see, yet they are so humbled by it. It’s magical. As is the score by Brian Eno!"
