Some people might consider it slow in parts if they don’t like character development.
A great Stephen King adaptation!

From the kids to pennywise himself everything was well acted and scripted. There was comedy, suspense, and horror. Great movie over all (0 more)
It was advertised as this very scary movie and yes it had it's moments but it was more of a suspense or maybe even a psychological thriller. (0 more)

Creep Factor of 10
Really considering that Tim Curry isn't in the flick, it's otherwise perfectly executed. Bill Skarsgard is an incredible and convincing Pennywise. The suspense is played out better than the original. And there are moments that are actually scary. I'm excited for Chapter 2!

So is Pennywise!
If you're of a certain age you'll probably remember the 'It' TV mini series of 1990, based on Stephen Kings classic novel. And you'll also have lasting memories of Tim Curry as Pennywise, the demonic clown who terrorises the town of Derry, Maine. His was the definitive evil clown, the benchmark for all scary movie clowns to come. This big screen version remake had a lot to live up to.

We meet the new Pennywise pretty early on in the movie as young Georgie ventures out into the heavy rain to play with the paper boat that he and older brother Bill just made. Anyone familiar with the story, or the trailer for the movie, knows exactly what's coming, so it's no surprise when Pennywise appears in the drain where Georgie loses his boat. Calmly menacing, and excellently played by Bill SkarsgĂĄrd, but sounding strangely like Scooby-Doo as he chats away to Georgie, which kind of made him more funny than scary. It's not until he bites off Georgie's arm and drags him down into the sewer that you know he means business.

From there, Pennywise takes a bit of a backseat as we're introduced to our core cast of kids. It's been a while since Georgie disappeared and kids are still going missing around town, meaning there's now a 7pm curfew in effect. Bill is still mourning the loss of younger brother Georgie and his group of friends all have their own personal issues and demons too. These are gradually explored throughout the movie and are in some ways more sad and disturbing than Pennywise. On top of that, the local bully and his gang like to make their lives hell too and all of this is just hugely enjoyable, giving off a wonderful Stand By Me/The Goonies/Stranger Things feel, even more so as the movie is set in the 80s. The kids swear, make jokes together and at the expense of each other. They ride their bikes around town, have rock fights with the bullies and the entire cast is just a joy to watch.

Eventually, Pennywise steps things up a notch as he begins appearing to each of the kids, playing on their fears as he tries to lure them to their deaths. His appearances tend to involve a creepy, chilling build up, followed by a surprisingly effective jump scare (certainly some of the women in nearby seats to me seemed to be constantly on the brink of having a heart attack!). The scares become increasingly inventive and enjoyable as the movie progresses and while not as scary and gory as some might like, they still manage to work well within the whole movie.

I had a lot of fun watching It. And this is only Chapter One of a two part series, with Chapter Two set to focus on the part of the story where the kids are all adults. I can't wait to see what comes next!

This film started well for me,the introduction of the losers club members now all grown up and having left (bar one of them) derry many years ago. Then they return and though unconvinced at the start that pennywise has returned they are eventually convinced and begin to prepare for the showdown with the evil clown.

The running time for me was to long by at least 30 minutes, certain scenes could have easily been cut and would not have been missed and some of the CGI monsters were laughable. The way pennywise is finally defeated in the end was a bit of a let down, certainly not what I was expecting.

The actors were great in their roles though, especially bill hader as richie and the stephen king cameo was very funny.

Some hilarity and some scares!
Overall, great actors; they have portrayed as their characters really well. Pennywise was horrifying to look at! Hilarious movie (I know it's horror), but it does have some sense of foreboding and scares!

This movie (and the book) freaked me out so much as a kid (and certainly contributed to my coulrophobia). I went to see the remake and thought it was just as awesome (though Tim Curry will always be my Pennywise). I'm actually planning to read the book again soon, and then I'll watch this one again (with the lights on, of course).

Pennywise Returns - Not As Scary As Chapter 1, But Still Great
It Chapter 2 is a 2019 supernatural/horror movie directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay by Gary Dauberman. It was produced by New Line Cinema, Double Dream, Vertigo Entertainment, and Rideback, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film stars Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader, and Bill Skarsgard.

The evil clown Pennywise returns to terrorize the town of Derry, Maine after being defeated by the members of the Losers' Club 27 years ago. The childhood friends have long since gone their separate ways but are called home to keep their promise by Mike Harlon who never moved away. Not quite remembering everything from their past but each traumatized by their own scars, the Loser must conquer their fears and destroy Pennywise for good.

This movie was great. Personally, I think chapter 1 was better, but this film definitely didn't disappoint. Right from the beginning it set the tone with a opening scene of a gay couple being severely beaten. I really liked the casting and who they chose to portray the children of the Losers club, they did a great job. The acting from everyone was good, Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy and Bill Hader's performances were superb. I enjoyed how this movie expanded on the lore of Pennywise and his origin. Even with a long run time, it didn't feel like a super long movie. To me some of the most enjoyable parts were the flashbacks where you got to see the younger cast. It was good that they had a big part in this movie too. I give this movie an 8/10 and it also gets my "Must See Seal Of Approval".
