Powerful thriller

Mockingbird's Cry is full of suspense, intrigue and romance, which makes a good all around read. There's plenty of action to keep you entertained.

Jo, an ex-member of Hera Force (all-female black ops group) is pulled back into the military life (that was ruined by a failed mission) working with Lincoln.... gorgeous, ex co-operative and lover from many moons ago!
Both are strong and capable, you'd need to be with all the twists, turns and lies that keep getting in their way personally and professionally.
The way that the two characters interact is well written and I really feel for them. I love how resilient Jo is.

Lovely and heartwarming. Even if it does tear out your heart and soul a little (0 more)
The ending! (0 more)
It was a while ago when I read this book, but I remember enough to write a review, I think.

Firstly, the book is not for the faint-hearted. The beginning is difficult to read for those who are a little sensitive to subjects such as child abuse, rape, and murder. That all happens near the beginning of the book.

The middle of the book it so much better. The reader and the protagonist, Susie Salmon, watch as her family grieve for the loss of their daughter. They do not know what happened to her. To them, she is just missing, most likely murdered. It is only us and Susie who knows what happened. We see Susie as she tries to interact with her family and help them to move on from what has happened to them. It is such a lovely section of the story it makes me want to rate it higher.

However, the ending ruined what the author had spent so much time building. The ending does the rest of the book no justice what so ever. Although to some, the story would feel unrealistic anyway, considering we are watching from the focalisation of a dead person. But it is still believable because of the purpose of the book. The ending completely pulls you from this beautifully written piece. When I was reading it I was like what? Really? This is happening? It was so unrealistic that it ruined the ending. It was like lazy writing. The author could not think of a better ending so she just threw one together and hoped no one would notice. I noticed. And if that isn't what she did, then she ruined a great piece of work.

The family also seemed a little too perfect for me. But I will leave that as it stands.

I'm going to stop ranting now. I have given this book a 6 because I loved the rest of the book up until the ending. If the ending was better, it would have gotten a higher rating. But alas, the book was an alright read. Something I would not really read again unless I had to. And I don't.

Great retelling but kind of ruined one of my favorite villains
All in all I did actually enjoy this movie I love that they gave all the characters really great and interesting backgrounds and played around with the whole whole really a villain theme.

The one thing that I really found that I wasn't a big fan of with how they changed one of my favorite villains of all time. Maleficent was always such a great villain because she literally cursed child because they simply didn't invite her to a party it was one of my favorite things about her and while I did enjoy this version of her I still miss the just flat-out evil that she was in the original cartoon version.

Keep your mind open and you'll question everything.
This book was my introduction to this author and this story made me believe that there are still authors out there that can do whatever the hell they want without sacrificing a story for shock value. This story has plenty of shock. This book tends to get classified into genres that it doesn't quite fit. It sort of needs it's own. I recommend this book to any adult that like a little (a lot of) naughty darkness in their cup of tea. I would not recommend this to anyone with sensitivities to sex, religion, horror and abuse.

I wanted to like it, I really did.
Okay my low rating isn't because it was necessarily a bad comic because it wasn't, it had some really awesome parts and I love the super group so much but it was like Millar saw how much people loved the violence, myself included, and kind of just went so overboard with it in this volume that it really took away from the story because it was just violence for the sake of violence the hyper violence this time around just didn't add anything to the story and one instance really was just cringe worthy and honestly ruined the rest of the comic for me.

So as much as I wanted to like this one I just didn't.

Sleeping with the lights on at 30
Watched this again for the first time in years yesterday. Didn't seem half as scary when watching it with other people so didn't have to sleep with the light on this time (true story).
Sarah Michelle Gellar plays it well and some of the jumps and scares are brilliantly done. Raimi was going through a little horror spell with this and Drag me to Hell which also was pretty good, but did have a slightly more comedic tone than The Grudge.
Good supporting cast and well worth a watch, as its o e of the few American/Japanese updates that hasn't ruined the original story
