Kim Pook (101 KP) rated Gerald's Game (2017) in Movies

Contains spoilers, click to show
A middle aged couple go away for the weekend to spice up their marriage. Whilst reinacting one of Gerald's fantasys, Jessie asks him to stop which makes him angry, has a heart attack and dies, leaving Jessie handcuffed to the bed unable to move. Stuck with nothing but a dog eating her husband and figments of her imagination for company, she must fight for survival.
When I first saw the trailer I expected it to be one of those single character movies, so I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't like that at all. I found the storyline interesting and well played out, I also liked that there was a small backstory to Jessie's childhood.
Admittedly, until it was mentioned in the end credits I had no idea it was based on a Stephen King book. This really shocked me as i would have never guessed. It's still a good movie though and now going to have to find and read the book.

I enjoyed this.
Though how those triplets are related, I'll never know. They're always arguing and b*tching about one thing or another in each others lives and it drove me wild whenever they were together in the same room. I get sibling rivalry, but jeez! They were vicious.
As for the romance between Billie-Jo and Logan, I really liked it. It was slow and sweet and had me sighing at certain parts.
I liked the storyline, a female ex-professional ice hockey player playing on an all men's team and showing them that she's good enough to do it and in most cases better than them.
The bits we saw of Bobbie-Jo kinda made me like her, though I'm sure I'll come to like her fully when I read her and Shane's story. As for Betty-Jo, she seemed like a bit of a b*tch with what she did to Billie in this and at present I'm not a fan.

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Crossing (Open Door Love Story, #1) in Books

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely adore this book. It is one of a kind and deals with many issues.
When I first saw this book I was intrigued by the title and description. Crossing? Crossing what?
I figured out Liam's secret pretty early on, it just dawned on me when I put everything together and was intrigued with where the story was going to go.
I like how it deals with body images and how people judge others on looks alone a lot of the time. It also deals with what others see as acceptable behaviour in society.
Honestly, I found myself falling for Liam around the 45% mark--he was so sweet and attentive--and when he went after the slightly chubby Dani instead of the stick thin bitchy girls I fell a little more.
I feel I have to mention Ursula too, she was awesome!

When this book first came out it seemed to be publicised everywhere so when I saw it on a daily deal I picked up a copy.
I'm not sure what I was expecting but it wasn't quite what I got. While the main thread of the story focusing on the death of Lincoln's son and the ghosts in the graveyard was interesting it felt like this was essentially a short story bulked out into a novel (given the author is far more famous for his short stories this probably isn't surprising). The use of historical quotations to tell the parts of the story taken from real life seemed more of a clever affectation than actually a useful plot device. While I finished the book and felt like I knew a little more about Lincoln the man afterwards overall I didn't think it lived up to the hype surrounding it

A twist in every chapter
I usually stick to what I know. I have a favourite authors and I to be honest. I'm scared of trying new things when it comes to crime fiction. It's hard to find a good author who keeps you gripped and has a very realistic storyline.
When I saw this book in my local supermarket It was a boredom 'thing'.
I had nothing to read at home that was new and it 'looked' good, and it was.
The storyline gripped me from the very first page. The twists and turns in this book are so well written and linked in with everything going on that you forget how far into the book you have read.
I finished this book in less than 48 hours. Yes 2 days.
A crime unearthed, but who? When? How?
Trust me. This is a great read and I can guarantee that the very last chapter will have you amazed.

A bonafide game changer
It cannot be overstated how important and game changing A New Hope was/is.
The first Star Wars film (but 4th chapter of course) is a classic that truly stands the test of time.
Everything managed to hook me in when I first saw it as a young child, from John Williams flawless soundtrack (surely the most iconic movie soundtrack of all time) to the engaging characters.
Characters such as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia Organa, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Darth Vader were iconic from the get go.
The set pieces are truly legendary, especially the climatic assault on the Death Star.
All of the locations and planets seem exciting and magical.
The different droids and alien species that we come across are memorable.
All these things that I fell in love with as a child are still intact when I watch it now.
George Lucas lovingly crafted a classic that will always be important.

Matthew Krueger (10051 KP) rated The Hills Have Eyes (1977) in Movies

Cannibal Savages
The Hills Have Eyes- is a disturbing psychological survival horror film. Wes did it again.
The plot: Wes Craven's cult classic about cannibalistic mountain folk, including the Carter family, who are on the trail of stranded vacationers in the arid Southwest Californian desert.
Craven based the film's script on the legend of cannibal Sawney Bean, which Craven viewed as illustrating how supposedly civilized people could become savage.
Wes Craven desired to make a non-horror film, following his directorial debut, The Last House on the Left (1972), because he saw the horror genre as constraining. However, he could not find producers interested in financing a project that did not feature bloody violence.
The film was initially given an X rating by the MPAA due to its graphic violence. Due to this, significant material was removed from Fred's death scene, the sequence where Mars and Pluto attack the trailer, and the last confrontation with Papa Jupiter.
Its a excellent movie.
