"Probably the most beautiful overall film/package combo in the Criterion Collection. Mizoguchi’s eerie, haunting, and elegant film is one of the most devastating morality plays I’ve ever seen, and it just might scare you into being a better person. It will most likely haunt you for quite a while. The design of the packaging is also really gorgeous. Most likely my favorite Criterion disc set."

Terrified me!
Having grown up and then by poor luck, happened to work in a building where flying objects, apparitions and things appearing in mid air was normal daily life, horror films don't scare me. This however terrified me. The worst possible form of a prison where you watch people unravel. It is absolutely genius and unique a film. Blown away.

I really enjoyed this film I thought it was well directed and acted it wasn't "scary" in the traditional horror movie sense but this one left you feeling tense and uncomfortable throughout which is a refreshing change from your typical cheap jump scare horror the use of dark comedy is also great it helps to alleviate the tenseness but only ever so briefly before throwing you right back into it

Good story, but not scary.
Complaining about special effects is pointless, because it's a very old movie.
The idea and the story are great. Reasoning behind character choices is interesting.
The only bad thing i can say about this movie, is that it lacked the scare factor. Maybe it is because of the unrealistic amount of blood, or maybe it wasn't scary at all, who knows.

This is one of few Poe works that I have read but I am stunned at his ability to scare his reader.

This story is dark, disturbing and horrific. Told from the perspective of a man made angry and aggressive from an alcohol addiction, this story moves through the motions of his life. From happy young animal loving boy, to wife and animal abuser.

Karma's a bitch, don't fuck with cats!

Ok, but far from groundbreaking.
After watching the first Insidious (which was reasonably enjoyable), I found myself wanting to see the second, but was disappointed with what I saw.

Chapter Two was basically the same as chapter one, not particularly scary, and relying heavily on jump scares. Jump scares are fun, but not when it's the only scare the film provides.

I'm a little devestated. I've written a paranormal story plan and a lot of this was a lit like it. Back to the drawing board. This is a very very good film, as The Shining was. This could have ended up being a cheese feast but it continuous the iconic scare in new ways through a seperate story. Absolutely brilliant.

Great Thriller

A great cat and mouse thriller in a way, just leaves you guessing who is the cat and the mouse. Some might find it a bit dark in subject matter etc, with some of the scenes as well. How far is the girl prepared to go with her scare tactics. Almost like the little red riding hood tale with the roles reversed, notice her top? Great acting from the leads and quite thought provoking.

Exceptional drama exploring paranoia and hysteria
I remember having to study this book in drama during my school days, which made me become fascinated with the Salem Witch trials and its parallel politics. It is a dramatised and partially fictionalised story of the trials that took place in the Massachusetts Bay Colony during 1692/93.

The play explores paranoia, the power of superstition and mass hysteria. It shows the dangers of using a scapegoat to fix problems in society. Classed as one of the great American plays along with the likes of Long Day’s Journey Into Night, Miller wrote the play as an allegory for McCarthyism, when the US government ostracised people for being communists.

Many prominent people became victims of the Red Scare, Arthur Miller was one of many people who came to the attention of the House Un-American Activities Committee. In his play The Crucible Miller drew comparisons with the Red Scare and the witch trials of 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts.

Truly an awe-inspiring and essential read.
