"Godfather II, specifically number two. It was just what a gangster film should be. It was smart, it had great performances, and you travel through a lot of different worlds with these characters. You know, most people try to avoid family drama. [laughs] I just love the filmmaking in Godfather II."

"Jean Renoir’s almost-lost piece of essential filmmaking is a tour de force of social debate, comedy, violence, and overindulgence. And that’s just how the characters behave. The filmmaking is crisp, smart, and quickly paced. Many films have come close, but, in my opinion, Renoir’s masterpiece is the finest cinematic example of class satire."

This show surprised me. I decided to check it out and see how it was and I found myself enjoying it right from the start. The writing is smart and the action scenes are well done. The cast they picked does a great job with portraying the characters. It seemed to get better and better as the story progressed. Overall, pretty good show.

The romance aspect
A decent sci-fi Rom-com hybrid.
First of let me just say, this is the type of book that makes you look incredibly silly when reading it in public. It had me laughing until I couldn't breathe, and thanking my lucky stars that I read it in the comfort of my own home.

The characters in Colgan's book are a breath of fresh air: smart, just the right amount of geeky, and incredibly funny. The mix of the different characters and personalities within the group works perfectly, and as I said they have you crying with laughter. Connie is a fantastic main character: interesting, smart and witty, and I loved reading the adventures from her point of view.

However, I was disappointed with the romance aspect of this book, I didn't find the relationship between Connie and Luke to be believable, and I just couldn't get behind Luke as a character as a whole. I didn't find his character very compelling, and I felt the author went further into the development of other smaller characters than Luke, considering he is supposed to be quite an important part of the story line.

Overall though the characters in this book are so lovable and funny it definitely makes the book worth a read.

Tobin Bell recommended The Descent (2005) in Movies (curated)

The Descent (2005)
The Descent (2005)
2005 | Horror

"The Descent, which was the film about the women spelunkers who go down into a cave. What I liked about that was the fact that you spent the first half hour of the film developing the characters. You cared about the people. By the time they went into the cave, you were involved. I thought that was very smart, and I loved that a horror film didn’t go right to the scares but made you care about the characters and their relationships with one another. The Descent was very well made, I thought, on a relatively low budget."

Loving a lady assasin
I was extremely skeptical when I started watching this show. I did not have a ton of background information on what it was about. I was hooked almost immediately. Both the detective and the assasin are smart asses which also makes the drama very funny. Definately worth a watch.
