A big ridiculous slice of the finest 80's camenbert that I just couldn't help but enjoy. Stallone is on fine ass kicking form as the hilariously named Marion "cobra" Cobretti (who for some reason has a matchstick in his mouth for almost the entire running time) offing bad guys in creatively violent ways. It actually starts off pretty dark before descending into more generic action fare towards the end but is unfortunately made laughable at times by being shot like a music video. The dialogue and soundtrack is pretty cringeworthy and I don't know what was going on with Brigitte Nielsen's photo shoot with a bunch of robots?. Yes it's crap but it's under 90 minutes and never boring. You could do worse for some easy action thrills.

"As with all Andrei Tarkovsky films, Stalker deserves multiple viewings. At three hours, and with most shots exceeding a full minute in length, it demands a commitment from the viewer. The production was infamous, a majority of the footage was lost and had to be reshot, and multiple cast and crew members died from cancer, which was attributed by many involved to toxic conditions at some of the shooting locations. The results of the film, however, are as unique as they are impressive. The imagery and symbolism remain some of the most beautiful and haunting ever put on film. And the soundtrack and score are interwoven with the images in a style not unlike the collaborations of Kobayashi and Takemitsu, where sounds are processed and stretched to disorient and then reconnect the viewer."

"The Western is obviously one of the staples of American cinema, but ironically, the Italian spaghetti-westerns have become more famous in pop culture than the classic American western. And amongst the spaghetti-western directors, Sergio Leone will always be the titan for me. Although I love his films with Clint Eastwood, this epic is one to spend an evening with; from the classic shoot-out at the train depot, to the haunting final three-way gun fight, this may be my favorite portrayal of Charles Bronson on screen. It’s a story of the expansion of the railroad and the opening of the west; of revenge and infamy; of love triangles and justice. And with a sweeping, heartrending soundtrack from Ennio Morricone, what more can you ask of a film?"

"I had to choose this one because it means so much to me in my life. When I met my wife we were listening to it a lot, so it's a really personal record for me, and a really romantic record. It's got a folk element but it's never silly, and on songs like 'Young Bride' it's really fascinating and beautiful. I went to see them at the Royal Festival Hall a couple of years ago and was absolutely blown away. I didn't know what to expect, but the singer had a real presence, a real energy, he was living it. It's the soundtrack to a very recent part of my life, and a very important moment to me personally. It has a huge emotional resonance for me."

While the late Heath Ledger may always be remembered for his portrayal as The Joker in The Dark Knight, and speaking personally, that's actually NOT the first film I remember seeing him in.

This is.

Starring as William, the peasant squire of a Knight who partakes in the medieval sport of jousting - which is restricted to the nobility - and who, just as the film starts, impersonates said Knight (who has passed away), this is very (very) loosely based on Chaucer's 'The Knights Tale' in the Canterbury Tales.

Indeed, Chaucer himself is one of the key characters in this film, portrayed by a pre-Vision (from the MCU) Paul Bettany.

Yes, the soundtrack is completely anachronistic (Queen? David Bowie?) but also actually works in the context of the film!
