David McK (3425 KP) rated The Suicide Squad (2021) in Movies
May 27, 2023
Hmmm ... not Suicide Squad, but 'The Suicide Squad'.
Like Aliens and not Alien.
A sort-of sequel to the earlier movie (here, Suicide Squad), with some of the same characters - most noticeably, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn - although it is by no means necessary to have watched that earlier movie.
This is also a fair bit bloodier/messier than I remember said earlier movie being, and has absolutely no mention of either Batman or the Joker (unless you count Quinn's aversion to personalised number plates? See The Jokers car ...) to distract from the plot here, which sees the group of super-villains (all with a tracker and bomb implanted in their head) all sent on a mission to the island of Corto Maltese to destroy a Nazi-era prison and laboratory.
Of the 2 movies, I think this is the better.
It's definitely a James Gunn film through and through!

Kaysee Hood (83 KP) rated Wristcutters: A Love Story (2006) in Movies

Writercutters: A Love Story is dark humor at it's best with a touch of romance. It took one view of this for me to fall in love with this flick as it takes on the matters of love, suicide, and what is beyond.

Hmmm...
That's all I find myself saying. I've heard a lot of debate about the Netflix series & how it glorifies suicide. After reading the book, & not yet having watched the series, I don't see how one can say that. I found it just plain sad & heartbreaking. It is so easy to look past the signs of suicide. It's frightening to think about how many times this might really happen. Not necessarily in this dramatic a fashion but, how many times people take for granted having another chance or being afraid of what someone else thinks or might think about them.
