The main reason I saw this film was because of Sebastian Stan. Of course, the story is interesting. Stan's character is gathering evidence for a Medal of Honor for an Airman named Pitts during Operation Abilene during Vietnam.
It was interesting for the film to show portrayals of multiple cases of PTSD. It was obviously sad, and I had a headache from the tears that wouldn't stop running down my face. It definitely tugs at the heartstrings. It was also pretty depressing. But, of course, it does have a happily ever after.
I found the whole quest for a medal interesting. Since I saw 1917 last weekend, with the main character openly talking about trading his bit of ribbon from the Somme for some wine because it didn't mean anything. Also, I happen to have a bro that was glad when he didn't get a Purple Heart, and wants nothing to do with medals. I suppose the medal was sought for the parents, and because the vets from the Vietnam War were treated poorly. Though, you could argue that vets from every war haven't been treated particularly well.
I think this film was Peter Fonda's last, which shows how long ago it was filmed. I'm not sure why the release was delayed for around 2 years. I guess overall, if you're interested in war films, specifically Vietnam, you would like it. I don't think it would be for everyone.

I won this book awhile back on goodreads. I finally got around to reading it & have to say that I wasn't overly impressed. The book got off to a slow start. It got more interesting but not until I was into the second half of the novel.
The characters are very well written. I had a hard time connecting with Percival the Manu character however. The setting alternated between China & Vietnam in the time period of the Cultural Revolution & the Vietnam War. The story didn't really flow until Percival's son was arrested by the silent police for staging a "protest" in an attempt to impress his father who was headmaster of an American school in Cholon.
The book was well written, don't get me wrong! I just couldn't get into the story itself.

Loved it
This is a middle grade read that was wrote in a poetry style. Matt is a young boy living with an adoptive family in the United States after the army pulled him out of Vietnam during the war.
This book was heartbreaking at times. Matt has suffered a lot, and he is still blaming himself for the past. He is a character that you want to cheer for, and see succeed. The book also does a great job of showing how other characters were effected by the war, and how that eventually has an impact on Matt's life.
I would consider this book a must read for its target age group.

Way too serious!
If you liked the original George Lucas classic, you may not like its very serious sequel.
Instead of cruising having a good time with your friends before you are off to college, the main characters deal with issues like the Vietnam war, protests and the peace movement.
The music is still great and there is a very funny cameo scene; however, it is not enough to save this film which just gets the tone completely wrong.

This my Rifle This is My gun
This movie is one of the best look into Marine training at Paris Island. The movie is a nice look into the Vietnam war showcasing a great actor in Modine. His character is seen two ways (a killer and protector) and depending on your point of view you get to decide which one he is. The movie is suspenseful and filled with some good history. It also is a little depressing but, what war movie isn't. The best part in my opinion is that R. Lee Ermey was really a Master Sgt in the Marines so he didn't really need training to act the way he did. He frightened Modine as he said in several interviews

In the final days of the Vietnam War, secretive organisation Monarch secures government funding to lead an expedition to a recently discovered island in search of new species. And they find them. Boy, do they find them.
Critic Review By Jonathan Pile - Empire
Original Score: 3 out of 5
Excerpt:
Two films in to the MonsterVerse and it’s been a mixed start — both Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island fumbling the human characters, but nailing the kaiju. There’s potential, it’s just yet to be fully realised.

I think this is the first Vietnam War film I've seen. I am so conflicted after watching this film. One part of my mind wants to like it because of the gorgeous cinematography, the clear amount of time and effort that was put into it, and the heart that the actors brought. But this movie is so painful. It has so much depression in it. It's so hard to find a glimmer of hope in this film that you tend to be overwhelmed by the negativity. Overall, this was not a movie I liked.
Awix (3310 KP) rated The War Game in TV
Sep 14, 2019 (Updated Sep 15, 2019)
Time and its own successors have robbed Peter Watkins' famously embargoed docu-drama of some of its power - it does seem to be set in another world, and to the modern viewer the form of the piece occasionally resembles a Monty Python sketch of a particularly black kind. It is 1966, and escalation in Vietnam leads to the outbreak of full-scale nuclear war; millions die, the survivors are left traumatised, and society crumbles in the aftermath.
Not as utterly horrible as Threads (itself inspired by The War Game), but still amazingly bleak, and given extra power by the juxtaposition of firestorms, depictions of radiation sickness, food riots, etc, with absurd contributions drawn from the actual words of 'experts', the government, and so on. Looking at this film you do feel slightly astonished that the world lasted as well as it did; perhaps this film played a small part in that.

EPIC
Tom Hanks plays Forrest Gump plays a young man who is very slow but, smart growing up in the south during the 60's with his mom (Field). His life through school, the Vietnam war where he befriends his LT (Sinise), his lust for the love of his life Jenny (wright), to coming home and becoming the shrimp king of the world and just on more historical adventures.
The movie is kind of set to Billy Joel's "We didn't start the fire" as a ton of these historical events take place during this movie in which forrest has some connection with. The movie aslo has one of the best 60's soundtracks set to it of all time.
