Loved Everything About This Book!
This book lived up to the hype that had surrounded it and I was not disappointed. It is 80s pop culture, meets video games, meets a dystopian world in the most perfect of ways. The best part is, it doesn't matter if you don't know too much about each of the topic because it all gets explained or you're too into the story to mind. This was one of the first books that I listened to as an audio book and I thoroughly enjoyed it, so much so, that I now want to go and buy the actual book so I can go and read it for myself. Couldn't recommend it enough.

Fantastic, the concept is awesome and in my opinion a snapshot of how the world could be on it's current path. Unfortunately I am not a videogame nerd, some of the references were lost on me but 80s film and TV, I loved the connection to the culture of the time period. Since Back to the future I have been a fan of the Delorean car and was excited it was bought back in this story. The book was a thrill, geek ride from start to finish. My only regret is that I didn't discover it when in was first published in 2011.
Now I have read it I can't wait to see the film, player one is well and truly ready!

This book is dark, mysterious, unforgiving, and perfectly written. I cannot express just how bloody murderous these main characters are. Told from different views and different sides of very different cultures one gets to see just what is happening in each of their heads. It makes the story that much more intriguing. Enemies to lovers. Enemies to friends. Magical powers given and taken, growth, culture, belief. This book has it all while still being cohesive.

If you are looking for a happily ever after story this is not that. But if you want a compelling read that is so unforgiving in its darkness that you cannot help but fall in love with it then this is the book for you.

This book had a lot of very insightful articles on the US-Mexico border and the borderlands. I always find it fascinating to see the different points of view about the border--specifically how the United States sees it as opposed to how Mexico sees it. This book has six articles that I had to read for my film class about the borderlands. Seeing how specifically films deal with issues involved in immigration is very interesting. I enjoyed being shown examples throughout history to see how culture adapted and changed their views on immigrants and border policy. I think the most insightful article, for me, was "The Celluloid Immigrant" by Victor Alejandro Sorrell because it hits on many of the issues we still see today.

The Incredibles (2004) might just be the best superhero movie of all time. #Review
There are very few films as perfect as “The Incredibles”. Not only does it work flawlessly as one of the finest ever examples of a superhero movie, it also serves as an insightful deconstruction and analysis of the genre itself and still finds time to satirise the rise of entitled fan culture with a prescience that would be chilling if it weren’t so spectacularly on the money. Did I mention it’s terrific fun, too? Laugh out loud hilarious, clever, heartwarming and exquisitely structured, it’s one of my two all-time favourite screenplays. In case you haven’t twigged yet, I’m quite a fan...

West Side Story (1961)

Some of the songs are iconic
Romeo and Juliet, this time the "Jets" and "Sharks" the Americans vs. the Puerto Ricans.

Some of the situations and dialogue are dated now some 60+ years later and the movie is maybe 20 minutes to long, but when it works it is magic.

Songs like America, Somewhere, I Feel Pretty and Tonight anchor the film and the dance sequences are astonishing.

Hard to believe Spielberg is going to try and remake this. The politically correct culture we live in now doesn't seem like it will like another version of this unless they make it very authentic and not have Natalie Wood play Maria this time around.

We shall see...

The acting
The so called comedy
I don’t understand why people love this
There are some films that are heralded as special within film culture, most of these are deserved but this film is not deserving of the love shown.
Jim Carey is beyond abysmal in this movie, from his vocal delivery to his odd facial expressions, there is no saving grace from him in the movie.

An interesting premise but unfortunately something that could be groundbreaking becomes derived and pointless.

I’m sad I can’t enjoy this movie but unfortunately unless this movie is remade the Truman Show needs to be axed and visit Room 101 for crimes against good films.

This rating is of the audio book narrated by Wil Wheaton.

I only played one MMORPG seriously (Guild Wars, I'm looking at you!), and it consumed my life for a good year or so. This is important - all sorts of games are mentioned in Ready Player One, but it takes place within an MMO, and I'd wager that experience with MMOs will vastly increase your enjoyment of this book. It brought back all my fondest memories of gaming culture. It wasn't the most complex story of all time, but it did constantly manage to remind me of how much I loved hanging out with friends, arguing about games, and competing to see who truly had the best grasp of combat mechanics in super smash bros.
