Sarah (7800 KP) rated The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017) in Movies

Nothing special
I was expecting this film to be a bit of silly fun, but it wasn't quite as light hearted and entertaining as I'd hoped. Reynolds and Jackson make a great double act, with Jackson playing his usual character and Reynolds doing his great funny man act. Some of the humour was good although i think some fell a little flat. The action was good, even if some of the effects were a little dodgy looking. My main issue is that the film was more serious than I'd expected and I really didn't like the soppy romance element of the plot. Sometimes it's entertaining just to watch a bonkers action film.

Spielburg at his best
I'm an 80s girl and so when i see load of remakes or films with 80s stuff I'm kind of stop runing my childhood let me remebr how I want to remember. However I throughly enjoyed this movie. The plot is interesting and the characters so engaging the cameos of my favourite childhood movies are put in a great visual and entertaing way. I will admit for once i haven't read the book before seeing a film which is unusual for me and so i cant commment on if this film has done the book justice but as a film by itself it works.

Dean (6927 KP) rated the Nintendo GameCube version of Resident Evil Zero in Video Games

Great graphics (2 more)
New 2 character gameplay
Can be played on the Nintendo Wii
A great prequel to the franchise
Another great Resident Evil game, this time set before the events of the first game. It has a very similar look and feel to the GameCube remake. The graphics again are excellent with great detail light and shadow effects. It has a new feature where an extra character will help you out and you can switch between the two at different stages. The story is good and the bosses were well designed as you would expect. A HD version of this is available on the next gen consoles. Check it out if you missed it!

Kaylin (39 KP) rated Happy! - Season 1 in TV

Christopher Meloni and Patton Oswalt are great (2 more)
The effects are amazing
The writing is almost consistently good
I was looking for new things to watch when one of my closest friends recommended Happy! to me. And boy am I glad he did. Happy! is an insane ride into the deepest recesses of the seedy underbelly of human trafficking, hit men, and drug fueled benders. It's wild and violent and insane and absolutely amazing.
I'm aware that this show is not going to be for everyone. It's super violent and the subject matter is intense. That being said it's probably one of my favorite shows I've ever seen.

Surprising
I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The acting was good with interesting characters. The cinematography, imagery, effects were all very well done. The story unfolded ok but had a lot of very predictable parts. This was a "Steam Punk" future world with a lot of cool stuff in it but had just a bit of a "Star Wars-esque" feel to it. Not in a bad way, though. But the story, simplified, was that someone opened Pandora's box and the heroes had to shut it down. Anyway, if you enjoy a good sci-fi/action/adventure tale with just a smidge of love story thrown in, you'll really enjoy this movie. Worth a watch!

Love it
Based on the manga "Gunnm", Alita: Battle Angel tells the story of a female cyborg. It takes place against a beautiful cyberpunk world called Iron City. It truly is a sight to see. But the true sight is Alita herself. She's beautifully animated & played excellently by Rosa Salazar. Chirstoph Walz was Christoph Walz. Actually, everyone was pretty good. The effects are phenomenal. The story is good as well, although there was no need for the love-story at all. It didn't move the story at all. I do hope there is a sequel made. Seeing this also makes me hopeful for a live-action version of Bubblegum Crisis in the future.

Ray Milland brings a touch of class to Roger Corman's horror-sci-fi fable. The same old story: brilliant scientist is consumed by his own hubris, experiments on himself and meets a sticky end as a result: after initially being able to look through paper and cloth, his vision develops until he can see through the fabric of the universe itself, beholding something enigmatically terrible.
Not exactly over-burdened with plot, but the script is effective, and Milland brings all his presence to the film (nice supporting performances too). Some striking special effects, especially as the film goes on; not sure the final shot of the film really does the business but the film is very watchable regardless.

Movie Metropolis (309 KP) rated Jaws (1975) in Movies
Jun 10, 2019
Steven Spielberg’s first true blockbuster is one that has been copied but where those films tried and failed to replicate this formula, Jaws remains at the pinnacle of shark attack cinema. Filmed on a tiny budget, this iconic classic had people absolutely terrified of swimming in a pool, never mind out in the open ocean.
The special effects are crude by today’s standards but the cleverly positioned camera means the shark is rarely seen on screen for more than a couple of minutes and John William’s excellent score remains a cinema highlight for many. For films set at sea, Jaws just can’t be eaten.

Movie Metropolis (309 KP) rated Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) in Movies
Jun 10, 2019
The MCU was in full swing during the summer blockbuster season of 2011. Joe Johnston (Jurassic Park III, Jumanji) helmed this adaptation of the comic with his usual confidence. Chris Evans has now become a staple of the MCU and his origins story is definitely one of the most interesting.
The villains, well, they suffer here and are frankly a little ridiculous, but the special effects are on-point and it has a great score by Alan Silvestri. All in all, a pretty average first outing for the First Avenger, but one to build on with the two sequels that followed.

A Strangely Enchanting Tale
Ever since seeing the first trailer, I was dying to see this movie. I am a huge fan of Del Toro's other work and I loved the aesthetic that was being used to present this story. The movie did not disappoint me at all when I finally got around to seeing it, (as the UK got it much later than the States,) and I am so glad it won best picture at this year's Oscars ceremony.
An all round beautiful production that has bags of heart and excitement to go along with it. Do yourself a favour and see this masterpiece, you will not be disappointed.
