Merissa (12069 KP) rated Mystic Maples (Deerbourne Inn Series) in Books
Jun 18, 2019
In this, Mercy takes a leave of absence from the shop she co-owns with her sister, after a dramatic few months. She ends up at Deerbourne Inn, but due to a mix-up, she is only there for two weeks, rather than the six months she had intended. Along comes Silvanus to save the day.
This was an easy read that didn't really delve too deeply into any of the 'paranormal' elements. We know Mercy is a Earth/Fire witch, but mainly she grows plants. We know Silvanus is a gypsy/fae, but his gypsy side is stronger. There is a magical, time-travelling vardo that takes them back to right a wrong, but once again, this is skimmed over and done with before you can blink.
For myself, this was a lunch-break book - definitely good enough to whisk me away for an hour, but nothing that stays with me after. If you are looking for a light read, I can definitely recommend this one.

Merissa (12069 KP) rated Enchanted Guardian (Camelot Reborn #2) in Books

I love the mythology of Camelot, and by putting it into a modern setting, with the twist of the Fae losing their emotions, is simply wonderful reading! The story weaves itself around you, drawing you into a feud that is centuries old, but with fresh hurts.
It is incredibly well written, with a smooth and flowing pace. There are 'hot spots' where Lancelot and Nimueh spend time exploring each other again, but nothing too descriptive. With no editing or grammatical issues to contend with, I can definitely recommend this book to all fans of the legends of Camelot, or Fantasy/Romance fans.

When a mortal girl steals a necklace from a Goblin, there will be a price to pay...
Esther knows the rules. Don't talk to the goblins. Don't look at the goblins. Above all else, don't buy or trade with the goblins.
Then, one day before market, she sees a young rat faced boy selling a necklace that looks eerily like her mother's, what's a young girl to do? Of course she tries to buy it, but he won't sell it to her. So she steals it because it's her mother's necklace.
Lux knows the rules. He's a jeweler and he can sell his wares to those who want to faithfully buy them. Something doesn't feel right about selling this particular piece to the beautiful young woman who immediately steals his heart. So he doesn't.
But when he realizes the mortal girl stole from him, he's forced to enact magic that can't be unwritten. Stealing from a goblin always has a price.
I like it! A strange little novella of a mortal being unwittingly kidnapped by a goblin and finding herself his bride! Of course she falls in love with a rat goblin and chooses to change into a goblin! It was straight to the point and a fun little read!

⭐️⭐️⭐️
Volatile secret powers. An arranged marriage. An Immortal Prince.
For the first time in over a century, Immortal Prince, Dagen, is to take a mortal wife. Both feared and revered across the world, Dagen leaves his home of snow and twilight to retrieve her. But in order to ensure his intended, Eira of Vasaros, does not fear him, he deceives her, pretending to be an emissary.
In a world of rising tensions, Eira knows an arranged marriage will provide a welcome alliance. She willingly accepts her duty but that doesn’t stop her from fearing her future.
Eira is hiding a secret power that she doesn't understand and struggles to control. She is afraid of the emissary who has come to retrieve her, yet finding an attraction that could cause untold turmoil. The closer she gets to him, the stronger her powers become. In a world still distrusting of magic, Eira is desperate to protect herself and does the only thing she can – has the knowledge of her powers bound by a Secret Keeper.
Journey through a world of colourful magical characters, Fae influences, a fearsome warrior race and secret powers.
I quite enjoyed it. It was a fun quick easy read. The only thing holding it back from a 4star was it being very predictable. The characters are likeable the story is interesting and it’s well paced.

You learn more about Myst from the start of this book. She has a persona she puts forward for everyone, and even falls for it herself at times. She pushes people away, not wanting to care for anyone. Unfortunately for her, some people sneak past her walls. From the other books, it is obvious that Myst and Fenrir have a history together but now we learn just what that history was. No wonder Myst pushed him away. Fenrir has a lot to do to make up to Myst and to get her to trust him again.
As with all of Maya Daniels' books, it is full of snarky humour and action. There are new characters to meet as we learn about Myst's past that I can't wait to meet again. A brilliant start to a new series and definitely recommended by me.
