Followed the book fairly well kput the
Based in Germany during the second world war, the story tells of a little girl who has awful experiences of death.
Geoffrey Rush was amazing as always and the film followed the book well in what it was trying to say and its themes

Surprisingly good story with subject matter that has been well tread, maintained humor throughout but very smart to see nazi Germany through the eyes of a child (0 more)
Not that I minded but there’s a seemingly jovial portrayal of Hitler that could be offensive. Nothing against the film but it’s noteworthy (0 more)

Generally speaking, if a book looks as though Germany, or somewhere in Germany, is going to have a reasonably central role, I’m going to read it. And Berlin didn’t disappoint.

Daphne has moved to Berlin, ostensibly to learn German, but as the book progresses it seems more likely that she’s trying to escape something. Trouble and strange occurrences seem to follow Daphne, and I was left wondering if it was in her imagination a lot of the time. Nothing is easy - from her German lessons, to her relationships and flat rentals.

Daphne is an unreliable narrator - and I think that’s all I need to say! Other than: it was a great read that I really enjoyed!

Brilliantly sad
Wow, what a movie. Very disturbing but very moving and showing just how the Jews suffered at the hands of Nazi Germany. Polanski's storytelling is sublime as always and the film though a tough watch sometimes is one that will live you for a long time

I loved the movie, but the book was even better. More details, they also explain things better in the book. ☺

"Nobody could have had a kinder and wiser headmaster than I. At the age of 92 he decided to write his fascinating autobiography. He was a young officer in the British army advancing into Germany at the end of the war. He boldly concludes that the Germans lack a sense of international fairness."

Absolutely beautiful, yet haunting book about a little girls experiences in nazi Germany. Her family are hiding away a Jew in their basement and Liesell is a touch of innocence in a mad ugly world.
Some of the perspective is from Death himself and it highlights the tragedy of the world wars.
