Haley Mathiot (9 KP) rated How to Make White People Laugh in Books
Apr 27, 2018
I really enjoyed this book. It was clever and hilarious, and there were lots of great stories. Farsad brought a lot of heavy topics to the table, but in a way that showed the problem without pointing fingers and hating. I laughed the whole time and really enjoyed myself. Farsad referenced her documentary and comedy show The Muslims Are Coming quite a bit. I have totally added it to my To-Watch list. See the trailer below. - See more at: http://www.thelifeandlies.com/2016/07/how-to-make-white-people-laugh.html#sthash.2hEUhgFJ.dpuf

This book was a heavy read, and I was upset after I finished it for a few days. While the 'opioid epidemic' may seem strange outside of the US, and even where I live, because it's not as bad as the region that this book covered.
This journalist interviewed people that were involved in all aspects of OUD (opioid use disorder), from the people that have OUD, their families, and numerous doctors and counselors. It's a very comprehensive look at the whole situation. It was very haunting, and tragic.

I need the next book now. The development of Alina and the other characters was beautifully written. I loved that the story was taken out of Ravka and we got to explore more of the country. I also loved how we learned more about the politics of this country. I found new characters to love and I am so happy about that. The more heavy scenes made my heart hurt as much as the light hearted scenes made me exuberant. An amazingly written novel. I would definitely recommend this to my friends!

Weirdly interesting
Kind of hard to describe details of this film without giving things away.
Patrick Wilson and Ellen Page are mesmerizing both playing deeply flawed characters in this very interesting film. The movie will make you cry, wince, cringe and be disgusted all at the same time and different emotions throughout as you try and figure out character motives and backstories.
I enjoy a thriller you can't figure out, and this one definitely foots the bill. The heavy plot is not for everyone so be warned.

Oh my gosh ! what an adorable book - but a bit heavy on the content too - Lina was a strong presence to read about and Ren was just a cutie - I thought their "drama" was a bit overdone an it could have gone without but hey, a book needs a bit of something something to make it a bit more - then again, the whole Lina situation was drama in itself so I think it would have been good either way - also, I think this book would make a spectacular movie!
