Dean (6925 KP) rated London Boulevard (2011) in Movies

A pretty decent London gangster flick with an impressive largely English cast. It starts a bit slow, but soon gets going. Some of the smaller story lines don't add up too much and one or two developments in the plot don't make a great deal of sense. However it is pretty decent with a good finish, a lot like Layer cake in the second half of the film.

Not what I was expecting! A great performance by Tom Hardy as the title character, but the monologue style delivery for the majority of the film was quite odd and bizarre at times, although that fits the character well. Only seems to focus on a few key moments of all his time in prison, with very few facts or dates? Could have been a lot better I think.

I thoroughly enjoy EVERY season but this season really made a lot of progress in the storyline towards the final season. This show (and yes, I've read the books) is well done and I love the actors. They have done such a great job with their characters and I love seeing how much the characters have grown from the beginning. I recommend this show to everyone!

Stephen King always managed to draw me into his books. But with this one I was totally hooked and it was on my mind long after I finished reading it. The idea of going back in time to potentially change something so huge, it stays with you! I've read this book 3 times now and will undoubtedly read a lot more!

Director PAUL GREENGRASS knows how to make a tense film based on real life events! The film is way long, but it has a lot of tense moments along the way in the places you'd expect tense moments and the as you can expect third act is full of tense moments. TOM HANKS gives his usual stoic performance, but in his last scenes in the film he's really great!
Adrian VanderMolen (11 KP) rated Happy Death Day (2017) in Movies

This movie exceeded my expectations. I saw the trailer and said well this looks really cool but it looks like it is one of those movies that is just going to suck but you know what? It was freaking fantastic. There were a lot of times where you think it's all figured out but it's really not or is it? It's a roller coaster of emotions. Expect the unexpected.
Dean (6925 KP) rated Monsters (2010) in Movies

When I heard of this I expected something along the line of Cloverfield, The Mist. It does have a bit in common with those, but there isn't a lot of action in this or many scenes with the creatures, which was a disappointment. It's still a good film, very character driven with some good set pieces. I would have preferred a bit more focus on the Monsters though.
Dana (24 KP) rated So Long, See You Tomorrow in Books

This novel was okay for me. It was very slow for most of the novel and nothing much happens. There are a lot of characters, some of them we don't really get names for. There are changes in speakers who are too alike, so we don't know which story we are following in that moment. I enjoyed some of the descriptions of the novel but it isn't one much for me.

Had such a good start, but turned into a soap opera
Really great premise, and the opening episode was a good starting point. unfortunately the drama that unfolded was more about bluster and posturing and the kind of drama that happens with a lot of talk and not enough doing. The dialog is average at best. I reluctantly finished the fist season to see if it got better.
