The Big Stone Gap book series was a wonderful read. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters....Ave Maria, Jack Mac, Iva Lou, Fleeta, Pearl...and all the others. Great stories, made all the more real because the author is from Big Stone Gap, VA. I've heard that they are making the first novel into a movie. Should be interesting. I feel that most books turned into movies do not usually turn out well, with a few exceptions. I highly recommend this series.

Visual magic and Van Halen. What could be better?
I very much dislike when people compare movies to books since most of the time they will say "the book was better". Books and movies are completely different mediums and therefore should be judged individually, not compared to one another.

I remember reading one time John Grisham was interviewed after The Firm was released and said if they had stuck to the book, 45 minutes of the movie would have been the characters making photo copies of important papers.

Books can delve into details better. An author can spend six chapters describing a tree or get into character's heads and know what they are thinking. There can even be 38 main characters.

Movies are completely different and should be judged that way. Some may say filmmakers changed certain elements which worked just fine in print. Truthfully I do not understand why things are changed either; however, just because something is different does not make it worse.

Whew ok.

Ready Player One was old school Spielberg magic, plain and simple. The story was nothing special. The villains were sort of cardboard and one-dimensional, but maybe they were supposed to be like that. I mean, weren't the villains in Real Genius or Biff Tannen just as hokey?

The visual splendor and eye candy I usually rip on were vast this time around and thoroughly kept me engaged the whole way through.

I will hopefully watch again soon so I can pick on some of the Easter eggs I missed the first time around.

This film is for anyone who lived through the 80's as I did and loves movies as I do.

Casino Royale is the first book in the James Bond Series. I’m sure everyone knows who that is.

I have absolutely nothing good to say about this book.

I was so excited to read this. The movies are pretty awesome and action-packed. I thought the book would be fast paced and gripping. This has been one of the most boring books I have ever read. Bond wasn’t suave, calculating, or deadly. He was just pure, dumb lucky. It was so disappointing.

If you are a fan of Star Wars, especially of the new interconnected canon, this book is for you. Including a timeline, a who's who of important figures in the Star Wars universe, information on the more important planets in the Star Wars galaxies, and then more detailed maps of the areas of importance on each of these planets, this books has a little bit of everything to help you map out the where/when/who of the new canon. Very informative and artistically detailed, this is an excellent addition to any Star Wars fan's library. I'm hoping that as future movies, books, and cartoons are released, they will release updated editions of this book to include the new locales. A Star Wars geek's dream!

I had a huge issue with the first movie as is, so this may end up being a rant.

I have been a massive fan of the books for about 9 years now and can say with a fair amount of certainty that this movie does not echo its book source. Yes, they had the same characters (for the most part), but the characters being from the book does not mean that it is the movie of the book. It means that the book gave inspiration. Sure, some events that were in the book were in the movie - such as Tyson's slip with the winds, or Tyson's story at all - but some fairly important scenes were not to be seen in the movie - such as (what should have been the initial scene) the dodgeball game that reveals Tyson's immunity to fire, Siren Bay, or Circe. Not to mention the events that were changed in the movie - such as the fact that Polyphemus' island became a fairground instead of a lush paradisal island with man-eating sheep, or that the ship Clarisse is commandeering doesn't end up in Charybdis' stomach and that they avoid the two monsters all together. I'm not even counting the scenes that the director placed in this movie that should have come much later - like Percy's fight with Kronos, which shouldn't have taken place until the absolute last movie. When I saw the first movie, I said something about the way it was made, and I'll say it again: it's like the director hired someone to read the book and tell him what happened, the person read all the books and then decided to pick and choose their favourite parts and create an absolute mess of the books. I mean, it's a sign if the author of said books is the person who hates the movies the most.

That being said, I can attest to there being some good things about the movie. Alexandra Daddario (who plays Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena) did end up changing her hair and eye colour in the movie to the described blonde hair and grey eyes (though the eyes do look very fake). I am not sure whether or not this was just because so many fans were offended by her brown hair and eyes in the first movie (which was also terrible), but I am glad that it got changed to be more in-tune with the source material. Above all, I can say that there are about five seconds of this movie that I love - and that I will stomach the surrounding minute for - and that is when Luke Castellan tells Percy to 'stop walking on [his] roof'. It is by far the funniest part of the entire movie. However, I won't lie and say I'm not glad that the series isn't going to continue to be shown on the silver screen.

Great for those of us who don't have iTunes, or want to rate something that isn't available there.
A great app to share reviews (both good and bad) of books, music, podcasts, movies, tabletop games, apps, tech items, and clothing, to help others who want to know whether something is worth trying. As a member you can both read and leave reviews, and enter giveaway draws to have items sent to you to review, some of which are pretty epic.
The Smashbomb app is proof that good things come in small packages.

Minority Representation, fun formatting (0 more)
Great LGBTQIA representation in a YA novel
Representation MATTERS. Don’t let anyone tell you different. The two main characters in this book are GLBT – and asexual, which is a rarely-seen demographic. One of them is a WOC! And that’s IMPORTANT. We need representation of minorities in books, movies, TV, media – wherever it can be seen. So all those kids growing up, thinking they’re weird, or the odd ones out, or broken, can see themselves on the screen and realize that other people are going through the same things. That it’s NORMAL.

I also love the different formatting the author uses when representing texts, or phone calls, or the podcast that the kids create.
