Nicole Hadley (380 KP) rated Dare to Be Kind: How Extraordinary Compassion Can Transform Our World in Books
Jun 18, 2018
Dare to Be Kind by Lizzie Velasquez is an inspirational story. Lizzie has a rare skin condition that has subjected her to bullying and being mistreated. this book is about treating others with compassion and how it can transform your heart into a better person which can lead to a better world for us.
Velasquez encourages bravery, hope, kindness, personal resilience, faith in a higher power, and a healthy self-image when confronting one's bullies. She also highlights the need to serve as a good example for one's family, understand a bully's desire to cover their own pain with more pain, finding love and support, and addresses the cruelty of human nature when it encounters situations that it doesn't understand or have empathy toward.
I received this book from Hachette Books via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Suswatibasu (1701 KP) rated The Last Act of Love: The Story of My Brother and His Sister in Books

The prolonged grief of watching someone suffer
Terribly sad to read Cathy Rentzenbrink's real account of watching her brother in a vegetative state eight years after a hit and run accident. It raises many moral questions including is it right to let someone live in pain or die quickly under horrible circumstances. This book is truly a love story between a sister and brother. Expect many tears.

This album spoke to me in so many different ways. When it came out, I had just gone through a bad break up and so when I heard songs like Ruin and Mercy, it felt like he was singing about my pain. I believe that music is very therapeutic so listening to this album helped me get through this tough time.

Peter G. (247 KP) rated The Shawshank Redemption (1994) in Movies

An emotional rollercoaster of a movie that I watch at least once a year.
It's a story told with such measured elegance that you cannot help but get caught up in Andy's prolonged pain and suffering, then uplifting euphoria when he finally orchestrates the ultimate revenge upon his cruel captors, I do not have enough space in this review to truly do this gargantuan movie justice.
