Tommy Wiseau recommended Casablanca (1942) in Movies (curated)

"Casablanca. You see, Casablanca remind me what we have within The Room, some of the phrases. For example, I say, “Oh, you make my day,” or, “You are tearing me apart,” or whatever. I’m talking about the other movie as well, just paraphrasing some of those phrases. You see, The Room, people never give us credit, okay? And now everything turn around because people now, and especially the critic, which can be very tough as you probably… Including your company. But, again, let me explain something here. Hopefully you guys print this. Please don’t misquote me, but it’s nothing wrong to criticize anyone, included film, play, whatever. But it is wrong when people started doing not just a critique but get into sort of hatred mode. You know what I’m saying? So I think it’s very important to understand the structure what I present, related to The Room now, I presented 14 years ago, based on my vision, which people did not expect it, this kind of vision, because it was, basically, it was different cookie cutter from Hollywood. I said this many times, but as you know, I’ve been ignored but fans embrace that."

Gripping
I'd seen a lot of good reviews about this book and was intrigued to find out why so many people though it was so disturbing and horrific. I think people have over exaggerated some of the darker aspects of this book, but it was still a gripping read.

This is a very well written book. I was hooked from the first chapter and really struggled to put it down. I'm not entirely Lowen is the most endearing of protagonists but she's bearable enough. Verity was by far the most interesting of the characters through Lowen reading her manuscript, and it was that I wanted to read more of. The twist and ending were something I surprisingly didn't predict and actually quite liked due to the rather ambiguous nature of it. I do think people may have overexaggerated how dark and disturbing this book. Yes it's dark and has more than your normal amount of sexual references and descriptions, but it isn't particularly disgusting or out there. Some people may just need to get out more! Overall though this is a rather thrilling and entertaining read and one I'd definitely recommend.

Humankind sets out to prove that human beings are essentially nice people who want to help other people. Except over the centuries, philosophers, politicians and other influential people have told us the complete opposite - to the point that we believe it. I think Bregman is successful at this as well. Help does come in the most unexpected places, as we’ve seen recently in towns and cities across the UK during the coronavirus pandemic. Yes, there are those who take advantage of others, but I’d like to believe that they’re in the minority.

This is a really engaging, easy to read book, with some great examples. Bregman looks at studies and experiments that all types of scientists have done, and also looks at some real life examples.

This book left me feeling very positive about the state of humanity, and I hope that the good people in our societies will always outnumber the bad.

I really do highly recommend this if you’re prevaricating over whether to read it or not. It’s a great read.

Many thanks to The Pigeonhole and Rutger Bregman for reading along!

The Passengers
By John Marrs
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

You’re riding in your self-driving car when suddenly the doors lock, the route changes and you have lost all control. Then, a mysterious voice tells you, “You are going to die.”

Just as self-driving cars become the trusted, safer norm, eight people find themselves in this terrifying situation, including a faded TV star, a pregnant young woman, an abused wife fleeing her husband, an undocumented immigrant, a husband and wife, and a suicidal man.

From cameras hidden in their cars, their panic is broadcast to millions of people around the world. But the public will show their true colors when they are asked, "Which of these people should we save?...And who should we kill first?"

Another brilliant book from John Marrs. This author seriously has me worried about using technology. This was so intense and so frightening. It showed human nature at its worst. There is always someone watching and waiting to bring the truth out in people could you sit and choose who would live or die? I’m not sure I could.

[Defy the Night] by [Heather and Lydia Munn] was a very telling coming of age story. In fact throughout most of the book I really did not like the main character, Magali. I thought she was selfish and egotistical. I guess that was the point though.

The setting of "free" France during early World War II is something most people are not aware of because it was when most of the world was in denial. The people there fought on silently doing what they could for whom they could. This was not the Resistance as most people know of but perhaps it's predecessor.

The book was very well written and as I stated before the characters definitely had their own personalities. I will be adding this book to my classroom library and recommending it to the school library.

This show has had a lot of mixed reviews. Some people love it and some people don’t like the way that it represents body issues.

Personally I thought this was a great show. If you don’t think too much about how far fetched some of the story lines are and just take the show for what it is, a show, then it’s very entertaining, funny and a joy to watch.

I found it quite addicting and ended up watching the entire series over a few days. I enjoyed the witty dialogue, quirky characters and personally thought that they approached some touchy subjects in a way that people can relate to but also in a way that made the show fun.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed watching insatiable and am looking forward to the next series.
