I cry mercy. Love the concept, and the first third or thereabouts was good, but everything after: the barely there plot, the romance, manor life in the English country, pretty much everything, was all dull, dull, dull. I was disappointed in the lack of sci-fi and the history that was only spoken about and never lived through, so it didn't deliver on either account. Sure, the author can string a sentence together, there were a couple of amusing lines, and the Elizabethan English seemed well-done (although I couldn't be further from an expert), but I have a feeling the other books in the series are better. However, if the next one doesn't spark my interest, I'm done.

Passengers (2016)
Passengers (2016)
2016 | Action, Drama, Sci-Fi
Sci-Fi romance starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence (with support from Michael Sheen and Laurence Fishbourne) as two travellers aboard an interstellar vessel, who awaken out of hibernation 30 years into a 90 year journey (I think those are both right) to their new home planet, with no means of getting back to sleep or of waking up any other passengers or crew.

What follows, then, mostly - of necessity - follows those two characters (and Sheen's android bartender), asking just what you would do in their circumstances? How would you live out your life?

Beautiful cinematography and some fancy effects, however, can not fully make up for (at times) as dull as dishwater and leaden pacing ...

So Good

This isn't what I expected it to be like at all. Sci-fi I generally expect to have strange looking aliens and stuff , and this did but it was a gradual thing. We started off on Earth and slowly transition to Ethar, new words which are explained, new creatures also explained. New everything, all of which was explained. We weren't just dumped in the middle of the world and left to fend for ourselves.

Then add in the romance element and I was hooked. It was soooo goooood! Even went and bought the second and third books at the half way point through this. Off to start book 2 now!!!

Can't get much more 80's than this!
In my experience, few films have had such a different range of reviews by gender than this film. Most women I know utterly hate everything about this goofy 80s campfest starring Kurt Russell at his best while men seem to eat up all the cheesy one liners and mediocre story and visual effects.

I watch this movie a lot when I was a teenager. When revisiting it as an adult, I can see why some people can't get into it as it does look dated now, but it will always be a guilty pleasure for me.

What a perfect blend of comedy, action, romance, sci-fi and fantasy all rolled into one.
