Sarah (7800 KP) rated Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017) in Movies
Sep 20, 2017
A good but sadly inferior sequel
This film suffers from what 95% of sequels all suffer from; they never live up to the originals. The problem with The Golden Circle is that it has a lot to live up to. The original Kingsman film came out of nowhere, with little expectations & it was truly marvellous. And sadly the sequel doesn't quite live up to this.
As sequels go, it's still pretty good. The action scenes were great, the plot was interesting and Julianne Moore makes for an interesting baddie. Even the addition of the Statesman was a smart move & added something different, and it's always good to see Colin Firth back
The problem however is that this film has a far more serious tone than the first. There's humour, just not as much. And the action scenes although good (especially those with Whiskey), none of them could live up to that epic church scene from the first film. Theres also the issue that a lot of the film had been shown in the various trailers, and finally, it could've done with a little more Channing Tatum and a little less Elton John.

LeftSideCut (3776 KP) rated Leprechaun Returns (2019) in Movies
Jul 25, 2019 (Updated Nov 11, 2020)
I think I sort of enjoyed this? Maybe?
I'm not a Leprechaun veteran by any means. I saw the first one years ago and that's about it, and I seem to remember that being pretty average.
As far as I can gather, Leprechaun Returns is a direct sequel to that original movie, discounting the many other sequels that followed.
"It's so bad that it's good" is an often used term that doesn't quite apply to LR.
There's certainly some fun to be had - the kills are fairly over the top and imaginative and the Leprechaun himself can be amusing at times, throwing limericks and rhymes all over the place whilst gleefully killing off the mostly annoying characters.
There's even a character from the original thrown into the mix, which I'm sure is a lovely inclusion for proper fans of the franchise.
Other than that, it's a pretty run-of-the-mill, unscary, teen horror movie.
It's the very meaning of mediocre, but for some reason I found myself satisfyingly entertained by the times the credits rolled.
I may even seek out the older sequels!

Laughably bad
I will readily admit to not being a massive fan of the Friday the 13th sequels, especially not some of the more modern ones, and this is possibly one of the worst sequels there is. All manner of logic or plot continuity disappears out of the window for this one. It’s ridiculous from the very start and just gets more laughable as the film goes on. The cast go from the awful and annoying (most of the ‘students’ who’s names I couldn’t even bring myself to pay attention to), to the boringly average. Even the pairing of Lexa Doig and Lisa Ryder, an Andromeda “reunion” as such despite this coming during the time Andromeda was airing isn’t enough to keep this film being anything other than terrible. Lexa Doig especially is given so little to do in this which is a shame as the beginning makes out like she could be a proper kickass hero. And don’t get me started on Jason’s upgrade later on in the film...
This is one of those films that is so bad it’s vaguely entertaining, but not in a good way.

The gore
Hello Sidney
Watched today I liked it it alot as a long time fan of the scream movies going back to to 1997 when I first saw the first one and loving it even getting the twist after the first half an hour and seeing all the sequels as well at the cinema over the years the second film is still my favourite of all the five. When I heard the team behind ready or not was gonna make this movie I was excited cause I loved that movie so I knew what I was gonna get with one. Any way on to the film everything I would expect from a scream movie the gore the creepy voice on the phone played once again by Roger l jackson all the talk about sequels reboots and other stuff not forgetting the return of Sidney Gail and dewey it wouldn't be the without them . I also liked at the end when they put for wes a fitting tribute to wes craven. Also once again worked out the twist again but I won't give it away here spoilers

LeftSideCut (3776 KP) rated Jaws 2 (1978) in Movies
Apr 27, 2022
Put simply, Jaws 2 is a rehash of the first film, just nowhere near as memorable. It definitely set an ongoing trend of unnecessary sequels made because money exists.
For what it's worth, it's not too shabby all things considered. It's nice to see Roy Scheider back for another turn, even if he was reluctant to do so. The group of teens that the main bulk of the film focuses on are likable enough, even if they're somewhat forgettable. There are a few nice shots scattered throughout, and some fun sequences - An early boat chase that ends with the shark aflame, and the boat blowing the fuck up is a ridiculous highlight, and John Williams also returns to provide another great score.
Otherwise, it's just lacks a lot that makes the original such a classic. It's nowhere near as terrifying for instance, and is missing the character chemistry that was such a big part of Jaws' second half.
Jaws 2 definitely has some entertainment value that's worth exploring, but like so many sequels that followed in its wake, it was never going to step out of the shadow of its predecessor, nothing more, nothing less.

The core cast are back again (2 more)
Great opening sequence
The jokes and references to sequels in general
You have to follow the rules of the sequel
He we go again with our survivors of the first film trying to survive the sequel. Another great opening sequence with the premier of Stab. The film in the film based on the murders of the first film. Ghost face is back but who could be behind the mask this time. A great film for Slasher fans.

This is literally the best thing ever and I need to own it yesterday. While there's no story, it's basically just recreations of famous scenes, but who cares? There are awesomely drawn cats. As Trek characters. What more do you need in life? Hopefully, Ms. Parks will have sequels with Next Gen and all the other incarnations of ST, and possibly some other fandoms. Buffy cats? OMG, I needz it! I'll try to add some pictures later if I don't procrastinate too long.

I loved this book! Fast, fun, and spirited (in more ways than one!), it was a great, interesting, and unique read with a wonderful heroine. I liked that it deals with both Celtic and American Indian ways, which is really different in the urban fantasy scene. Joanne was very realistic, the plot fascinating, and her sidekick, Gary, was a nice change of pace. While everyone won't like this, I highly recommend reading it anyway. I can't wait to get to get to the sequels, this is definitely one of my favorite new urban fantasy series!

Easy to read (2 more)
Interesting concept
Funny
Loved this book. So easy to get into and made me laugh out loud quite a few times! My only problem is how short it is! I know there are sequels which are just as good, but I still would love to read more of it. Would definitely recommend to anyone who doesn’t have much time to read or anyone who just wants a good laugh. It’s been years since I last read it, I think it might be time to read it again!

Dean (6927 KP) rated Mirrors 2 (2010) in Movies

A not too bad direct to DVD sequel. You don't need to have seen the first as it doesn't carry on any of that storyline, apart from the department store. As with most straight to DVD horror sequels you can expect more blood, gore, kills and nudity with a lesser known cast. The first half was ok, after that the story is way too simple and predictable. Slightly different feel to the atmospheric first. The gore effects are good though. Worth a rent if you liked the first.
