Basically a new spin to vampirism (0 more)
The slow stabbing and cutting death of a screaming child, and going after other children was too much for me. (0 more)
Interesting spin

The movie takes place several decades after "The Shining", Danny is still haunted by the events from the hotel and is even hunted by the evil that was there. He has found a way to trap the "evil spirits". He makes use of his "shining" and it becomes a great story, however the main protagonist is a group of people that have the same special power as Danny and even more, but they've also learned how to suck the power from young children and this results in what I don't think needs to be in cinema. This world is evil enough as it is and to watch a child be cut and stabbed to death slowly while a group kneels over him inhaling his essence is revolting, I almost left the theater over it.
0/10 snore factor, cant sleep through this one!

A teen flick wrapped up in a John Carpenter film
There are many elements of 1970's and 80's horror films in this modern movie. From the panning cinematography and quietness of The Shining, to the virgin aspect of Halloween and Friday 13th. In this case, they've used the idea of sex to transmit a curse hence the plot is rather thin. And while the dream like quality is always eerie, the story wasn't strong enough to warrant a good rating.

"I can give you them as they come to mind; right now, when you say “five favorite films,” the first one that came to my mind — and I’m trying to think of different genres as well — the first one that came to my mind is The Shining. I do not know why, but that’s been one of my all-time favorite films. I’ve seen it about four times. I think that’s a lot for someone who’s completely petrified by darkness and lonely places."

Ari Aster had me hooked with Hereditary and then blew it at the end.
This time no such mistakes. Stunning. Stunning. Stunning.
Day time horror with no where to hide and no shadows to cover, you see EVERYTHING even if you dont want to. Utterly brilliant and a worthy Wicker Man rival. No, hang on it's better than the Wicker Man and probably the best horror film since The Shining!
That about covers it

"I have a few north stars that I point my children toward—shining examples of confident living. Alicia Keys is one of them. For decades I have been lit up, beckoned, awakened by the way she shows up in every part of her life: her womanhood, her artistry, her activism, her motherhood. Alicia’s freeing memoir More Myself is right on time, as more and more of us decide once and for all that we are ready to live our one fleeting life on our own terms."

Ollie's Dad died. Richard had an incurable brain tumour, and before he passed away, he sent everyone a special present. He also told Ollie that "being alive was like a puzzle and it was all falling into place." Ollie is autistic. He thinks his father left him a puzzle to solve. Could it involve the gifts? Why won't anyone help him solve the puzzle?

This Shining Life by Harriet Kline is a heartbreaking tale about a family coming to terms with death. Told from several people's point of view, Kline explores different portrayals of grief. Ollie's mum wants to stay in bed; his aunt wants life to carry on; his maternal grandmother tries to exert control; his paternal grandmother wishes she could understand her grandson; and his grandfather has no idea what is going on. No one has time for Ollie and his obsession with his puzzle.

Before Richard's death, Ollie dominated family life. Ollie had a strict routine, always had a few spare pairs of socks with him because he hated dirty ones, and had meltdowns if his parents used the "wrong" tone of voice. Without his familiar habits, Ollie's life was a mass of confusion - an apt metaphor for the grief the rest of the family experienced.

With a contemporary novel such as This Shining Life, there is no "happy ever after". People do not come back from the dead. There is no answer to the meaning of life. Grief is a long process and different for everyone. It causes depression, anger and confusion, but hidden under all these negative feelings is love.

Harriet Kline takes death and grief seriously but adds a touch of humour to the narrative for the reader's benefit. It is not a light read, nor is it markedly profound. Instead, This Shining Life is painfully honest, and for that reason, it is beautiful.

So much nightmare worthy material
I don't think it's a very good story. (0 more)
The Shining is a masterpiece is a lot of ways, Stanly Kubrick is Amazing
an Iconic Film. A must for the Horror fan. I highly recommend seeing the documentary on the visual tricks the film used, like the layout of the building and how it's impossible to actually be the way it is. Plus here's a alternate movie poster from Tom Whalen, one of my favorite movie poster creators.

Stephen Chbosky is a Genius.
A very sweet, coming of age film with a bitter twist at the end.

Logan Lerman is a very believable actor and from the beginning I am on his side, to do well, to succeed in love and life. I would have loved to be Charlie's friend.

Emma Watson in my opinion, is perfection personified. She plays Sam very well.

Paul Rudd plays Mr Anderson - and he is a shining star in this already amazing cast, downplayed and lovable.

If the Shining happened in an Ikea
Honestly one of my favorite covers because people keep thinking I studying an Ikea catalogue very thoroughly!

This book was just so much fun and had a really great balance when it came to the horror and comedy which for me just doesn't always come through when I'm reading books. But Grady Hendrix just really had a way with the genre. I bought this book first but ended up reading My Best Friends Exorcism first and that was also a great read.
