Who Is Reaching Out to Emma for Help?
This short story opens with Emma Whitecastle receiving a cry for help in the middle of the night. She’s confused because it doesn’t appear to be coming from a ghost. It sounds like a young child. Can she figure out who is calling for her help?

This is a short story in the author’s Ghost of Granny Apples series. Fans who want a quick check-in will be delighted with it. If you are new, it would be a good way to sample the characters, too. The characters are solid, and the mystery is wonderful, with plenty to keep me engaged as Emma and Granny follow a logical path to a suspenseful climax. The Christmas setting is fun, too. Being a short story, I read this is a little over an hour. If you are looking for a fun, Christmas themed short story, you’ll be glad you picked this one up.

nice easy read
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

Dimitri has just 5 days to convince Dena she is his fated mate, or he will die.

I really rather enyoyed this short tale of a lonley vampire waiting out his fate, I really did!

It's only short, 100 odd pages, but it was a surprising read and I cannot say why!

It's not overly sexy, and at one point I thought it might turn out clean, but I would have still enjoyed it.

Dimitri is vampire, and has some skills not *usually* associated with vampires: he can change shape into anything and every thing, he can magic things up and away. I liked that, its different.

Dena is as lonely as Dimitri and she has a strong voice, and won't take any nonsense off Dimitri when he pulls the alpha male thing, and I loved that she stood up to him.

Both Dena and Dimitri have a say, in the third person, and I read this book in one sitting. A very enjoyable sitting it was too.

Not read anything else by this author, and I would like to read more.

4 good solid stars

Well written but didn't exactly hook me
I've read collections of short stories before but never have I cared less about what happened in them than I did here. The stories are loosely collated with an overall additional story over the top of them. The stories have something of a fairytale feel to them (one an alternate telling of Beauty and the Beast, another like Snow White gone bad, yet another has a tough of Rumpelstiltskin to it), but most invariably include some heaving cleavages and women that throw themselves at the hero.
The stories are well enough told but it may be the translation that left me struggling to concentrate on the story and my attention wandered. A very short book, this took me longer to read than it should have.

Miss Charlotte Wilson believes that God has brought her the perfect man to marry, Mr. Hamilton Beckett. But is he truly the gentleman of her dreams? Charlotte has devised a flawless scheme to snatch up the perfect husband. But does she have her sights set on the wrong man?

My review of this novella is short because I don't want to give away too many spoilers. I enjoyed reading this short prequel to Jen Turano's series Ladies of Distinction. It is light and full of humor! An excellent start to this series and I can not wait to read the first book, A Change of Fortune. Jen Turano has quickly become one of my favorite authors. After a Fashion is by far one of my favorite books that I have read this year.

This is a sweet and sexy romance short story. The chemistry between the characters is hot and very believable. This author has a fab way of giving you a steamy story while going deeper into the romance. Fantastic characters you will fall in love with as you read. I really enjoyed this story and couldn't put this book down till I'd finished it. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.
Highly recommended
I voluntarily reviewed and advance reader copy of this book.

This book is very short, maybe 80 pages or so, but it is not an easy read. You need to take your time to really absorb it. It was disjointed at times, but it is a very interesting and enjoyable read, although there are a few pretty graphic part. It follows two story lines, and brings up interesting themes regarding music, control, the relationships between men and women, and on a broader scale, between different countries. It is very poetic and very well written.

Good for a Christmas mystery
For a Christmas genre novel this was great but in general it's just okay. It has not too much to do with Christmas and there is a solid mystery story that is intriguing. There are so many characters in such a short novel and I found it easy to get a little lost but the story isn't too complicated either. It's an easy one or two sitting read.

What an amazing short read. This story is about a man that saves an underwater race from being devoured by a sea serpent. So much happens in just 50 pages. There is mystery, love and adventure. A cruel king, a downtrodden boy with rights to the throne, magic shells, mystical storms and a ships captain who believes in myths and legends. I haven't done my research yet because I was so excited to let you know how amazing this read was, but I hope there's a sequel.

I received a free copy of this short story from www.netgalley.com and the publisher, Randomhouse UK, Cornerstone and I wish to thank them for this.

I am only a little familiar with Temperance Brennan having read only one of the previous books - funnily enough, it's the one that's mentioned in this story - "the case of a body found in a barrel of asphalt at the Charlotte Motor Speedway" but it was a few years ago and I can't remember what it's called but I must have enjoyed it otherwise I wouldn't have remembered it!

Anyway, this short story will only take a couple of hours to read but it packs a lot in and not only is it entertaining but it's educational too - I learnt a lot about pythons! The descriptions of the setting made me feel that I was there - my hair even went frizzy! The characters, not only Temperance herself, but the "extras" were developed just enough to add to the overall interest and made me want to read more.

I enjoyed it. It was well written, had good pace and tension and a twist ... what more do you want from a story even one that is as short as this.
