Charlotte (184 KP) rated Mercy Creek (Jo Wyatt Mystery #2) in Books
Dec 24, 2021
If you're looking for a thrilling read that pulls you into a deadly mystery then look no further.
Ideal for a young adult plus reader, Mercy Creek, will have you hooked and slipping deep into the intrigue of this seemingly perfect town. A town protected by detective Jo Wyatt, a strong tenacious woman determined to bring the truth to light and catch a killer.
She's a brilliant detective and I really liked how her personality developed.
It's also cool that the story is a standalone but with a basic background/main character that stays the same.
Christine A. (965 KP) rated The Couple on Cedar Close (Detective Dan Riley, #2) in Books
Feb 19, 2019
The Couple on Cedar Close by Anna-Lou Weatherley is the second in her Detective Dan Riley series but can standalone. I was unfamiliar with Anna-Lou Weatherley or her work but am thrilled that I found her.
Shortly after Laurie Mills found out her husband was having an affair, she in a serious car accident. The couple move to Ceder Close to put the affair behind them and to be near a mutual friend that is willing to help with Laurie's recovery. Laurie discovers the affair has not stopped and Robert is planning on divorcing her and move with his mistress and their child. Laurie attempts one last time to make Robert reconsider and prepares a fabulous meal. He does not show up but is later found dead with Laurie covered in his blood. DId she kill him during her blackout? If not her, then who?
The story is engaging and I found myself reading quickly to find out how the story ended. The basic premise is not new but Weatherley makes the story feel new. Her characters are well developed and, while they have their issues, you find yourself rooting for them.
I'm looking forward to more from Anna-Lou Weatherley.
Merissa (12051 KP) rated Second Wind in Books

This is a novella and, as such, I don't usually give them 5-stars. This one, though, I have no choice BUT to do so. It has so much to it, you get the full story. Yes, it could be fleshed out in parts but if there's no need, why do it?
I loved how Martin and Gethin communicated from the start, their relationship built on openness and trust. You see it grow and change as things happen between them.
Fading to black doesn't take away any of the intensity between these two. And I loved how Luke showed up (from another standalone in the same world). I am loving this world and am always drawn in by A.L. Lester's writing style.
Absolutely loved it and highly recommend it. And grab Out of Focus too, while you're at it!
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Otway93 (567 KP) rated Resident Evil (2002) in Movies
Oct 21, 2019
The film is loosely based on the first Resident Evil game, starting in the notorious mansion (albeit for about 5 minutes) before moving to the underground Umbrella facility, the site of the "incident", and carrying on in the traditional "investigation gone wrong" style, with lots of zombies, dogs and not much else.
The film is a fun action film that can be considered as an mediocre standalone movie, or a good start to a 15 year franchise.
