We follow Ory and his quest to find his wife, Max, after her shadow disappears. She leaves to protect him. There are also two other main characters whose stories we follow - an olympic trained archer and the Amnesiac.
I loved this. The narrators were excellent, and for such an implausible concept, it just seemed so likely! For a book with magic, it didn't seem wildly fantastical. Why SHOULDN'T this happen? It makes a change from a killer virus (for the record, I like those kinds of stories too, by the way). I really liked the descriptions of those who lost their memories - the way in which it happened sounded a bit like I would imagine those with Alzheimers or dementia lose their memories. This book is about how important our memories actually are, how they shape the way we live our lives.
A very good book/ listen (I listened to this on Audible)!

Anways to the plot:
When Beth Emhoff (Gwyneth Paltrow) returns to Minnesota from a Hong Kong business trip, she attributes the malaise she feels to jet lag. However, two days later, Beth is dead, and doctors tell her shocked husband (Matt Damon) that they have no idea what killed her. Soon, many others start to exhibit the same symptoms, and a global pandemic explodes. Doctors try to contain the lethal microbe, but society begins to collapse as a blogger (Jude Law) fans the flames of paranoia.
It has a all-star cast: includes Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, and Jennifer Ehle. Plus Steven Soderbergh directed it.
If you like medical action thriller film, than you will like this film.

Earth had become un-inhabitable and the remaining humans live in the Utopian domed city of Romdo aided in their lives by autoReiv's, androids that act as anything from butlers to children. However, things in Romdo are not as idyllic as they seem, the AutoReiv's are being infected with a virus that gives them emotions, the ruler is close to death and mysterious monster known as a proxy is on the loose . It falls to Re-l Mayer, a female detective and her friends, Vincent Law, an immigrant and Pino, an autoReiv child to go down to the the dead planet and find out the secrets of the Proxy's.
Ergo Proxy is a philosophical story that is almost always questioning what it is to be human, the story is very slow paced giving the characters time to reflect on what is happening.
There are a few times where the plot seems to contradict its self but these issues are solved by the final episode.
The characters are interesting and the story draws on inspiration from other works such as Pinocchio, the Wizard of Oz and Icarus all mixed together in a dystopian, cyberpunk future.
